Okay - so I know that sleep is important, however, I have some serious spurts of insomnia. If I still eat the recommended calories for the day & get at least 30 minutes of exercise in will it still be easy to lose the weight? If I need to get a better sleep schedule going do you guys have any tips?

If you still lay quietly in bed and rest when you can't sleep at night, it's still beneficial.
Sorry, I don't have a miracle cure for insomnia. Different things work for different people. Best of luck, and welcome!0 -
Maybe I should try that. I guess resting would be better than nothing? LOL0

Insomniac here. Hey look, I'm awake (4:43am)! I've lost over 11 pounds even with the curse of insomnia. You can try talking to your Dr-I got a Rx sleep aid but it makes me feel lousy. Maybe you'd fare better? Also, I have good results with Advil PM. Just one-sleepy time and it helps my running aches. But, I'm not cool taking it daily. Good luck with your weight loss, but yeah, you can still lose.0

Thanks! Glad to know that. I think I will get some Advil PM. I've taken it before and it did make me sleepy but I might get some melatonin as well and try that.0

If sleeping pills make you feel crummy, try valerian root! It may be more effective than melatonin, depending on what's up with your body. Taking anything to help me sleep (ie: OTC pills, even nyquil/night time cold medicine) often leaves me feeling groggy and blah the next day. Valerian root has not

I don't have insomnia, but I have taken melatonin when I needed to get my sleep schedule back on track. I feel like it helped me fall asleep faster than normal
I wouldn't say it made me sleepy though..so it very well could have had a placebo effect. Maybe something like Zzzquil would help you?

Try to build a routine that tells your body it's time to sleep. For me it's wash face, clean teeth, glass of water, lip-balm, lights out. Simple, but I automatically start yawning while doing it
Also avoid any computer/mobile screen if you can, or at least use a night lighting program. I'm runnin f.lux on my computer right now, and twilight on my android. It makes the screen dimmer and less blue, which helps natural melatonin production.0 -
Exercising actually helps me sleep better0

Lavender smells helps too -- have a hot bath Epsom/lavender smell. (unless your not allergic to perfume--use pain), candles low or lights!! It will make your muscles relax.0
