Okay I am considered obese.. My weight started at 324 lbs. and now I am down to 293lbs..and I have been changing my portion sizes, changed what I used to eat, to eating healthier. I also do calorie counting..And I am eating only a 1000 calories per day..My question is Do I have to excersise? Or can I just keep going as I am with eating?

ask your doctor for exercise on prescription. a gym member should then guide you through easy exercises to start with like a swim or the treadmill and bike. this is so as not to overload your heart. good luck julie

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss so far. Well done! You rock!!

To lose weight you have to change what you eat, how you eat and re-educate yourself about why you eat. Its all about choices and sticking to them. Even if you don't exercise you can lose weight. If you want to avoid loose flabby skin then you have to exercise. Exercise plays a big part in maintaining your weight and also helps with your heart and other organs. It is good to exercise, even if it is a long walk to begin with, starting small helps. You don't have to go to the gym to exercise but its a good way to socialise and keep fit at the same time. Find out what is available in your area. Good luck!!

Hi! Ok firstly well done on your loss so far.
Secondly... Please eat more. 1000 calories a day is not healthy or sustainable. You can comfortably lose weight eating more than that. Use MFP to work out what calories you should be consuming.
Weight loss isn't just about losing weight, it's about maintaining a healthy body whilst doing so and on 1000 calories, you'll lose lean mass, and won't get enough nutrients and fuel to keep your body well.

You do not have to exercise to lose weight, but it will make you stronger, healthier and your transformation will be greater :)
Walking is an excellent exercise to fall back on when you are stuck for ideas!

There is a lot of compelling information on people who maintain their weight...they tend to be regular exercisers. Think in terms of activity that will be fun for you.. Dancing, sight seeing, window shopping.

Well, it looks like you're following the caloric intake that this site recommends (1,000-1,200 calories for females). I'm too uncomfortable and too poor  to work out at a gym, so I do strength training in my bedroom or living room floor. Every day I do the following exercise moves 50 times (broken into 20-20-10): crunches, side leg lifts, pelvic lifts (great for the butt and thighs), vertical straight leg lifts (lay on back and lift up leg), and I'm currently working on increasing my ability to do modified push ups. I'm currently only able to do 6 at a time. According to this site, I burn about 100 calories each set. So sometimes I'll do this multiple times a day... instead of snacking.

All I know is it takes more calories to maintain muscle mass, so if I'm restricting calories and strengthening muscles... I lose more weight.

What you've lost is wonderful!!! I hope this helps.

You don't have to exercise, but it sure does make you feel good! I've noticed a huge increase in my mood and stamina from exercising. I also think you could stand to eat a lot more.
