Hi everyone, I'm new here, joined 2 days ago and a bit confused over something - what's the correct weight of a food if its saying cup?, need to know what it is in grams, thanks.

Totally depends on the food. A cup of say, breadcrumbs might weight 80 grams and a cup of flour might weigh 200 grams. There is no direct correlation, as a cup is a measure of volume, and grams are a measure of weight.

Not to mention, a cup of food can depend how much you pack it. A loosely packed cup of grated cheese can weigh half of a well packed cup.

    Depends on the food.

If you use the USDA nutritional food guide they will tell you how many grams of each food equals a cup.

This is really handy if you have a recipe which calls for a cup and you want to measure the ingredient out in grams instead, but beware using a 'cup' of something then using that conversion to log it as grams, because it really does depend how much you jam into the cup.

Weigh all your food if it calls for a cup. Use a cup then weigh it. As said a cup is a measure of volume and can depend on how much you pack it. It is an inaccurate way to measure anything but liquids
