Count me in! I'm 5'11" and currently 240lbs Not happy about that AT ALL! I just left a very stressful job so maybe that'll help with keeping my focus on my weighloss goals. I have to do this for myself. I take care of others daily(work in healthcare), bottom line...if I don't take care of me I'm not much use to them either. I also want to set an example for my 3 kids. I've been researching a lot in terms of whole food plant based lifestyles and the health benefits are AMAZING!! So my goal for the month of May is to cut out all refined sugar. The lbs will drop off slowly I suspect but I need to establish a healthy eating routine (as well as up my water intake) prior to starting exercise goals or I feel I'm just setting myself up for failure. I'm simply not one if those individuals whom can just eat whatever thier heart desires! Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer <-- which feeds off of sugar BTW...runs rapid in my family I don't understand how I've dodged these this far with my unhealthy eating habits. Its time to check myself before I wreck myself! All your support is needed and very much encouraged thank you all in advance for holding me accountable

Hey there Edna,
I have started my weight loss 2 weeks ago at 239lbs but I am a bit shorter than you 5'10 so we are probably round about the same BMR. My goals is to lose 90lbs in 15 months, does sound like a lot but actually is only 1.5lbs per week and I might have to adjust the end date.
Good luck and please feel free to add me.0 -
Hello Edna! I work in healthcare as well so I understand how you feel! I committed myself to following MFP consistently for 30 days including drinking all my waters and told myself that after that I would add in the exercise piece.
I am 24 days in and have started being more active already just because I feel like it! No set plan-I just feel more healthy and want to move! Hang in there and it will come one step at a time.0 -
Thank you both for your support My short term goal is to make it to 199lbs. I'm interested in seeing how close to this I can get by just adjusting my eating habits ( BIG SWEET TOOTH HERE) Its crazy how many emotions are tied to food. Stress, bordem, etc. At my old job the dept was so stressful, and you were lucky to see a lunch break once a week. I adjusted to grabbing something packaged (usually flipz choc. covered pretzels) because the bag fit perfectly in my scrub pocket and ate on the go. I no longer have to deal with the stress of being understaffed and overworked, thank goodness. I've been looking at The Forks Over Knives lifestyle, have either of you heard of this? A neurosurgeon I worked with introduced me to this literature and the benefits are AMAZING!! Of course weight loss is a big factor but there are so many wonderful other benefits. And I've actually met patients who've incorporated FOK and had jaw dropping results So this is what I'm shooting for, once I feel I have that under control I'll turn up the heat on the elliptical, turbofire, and kick boxing I urge you two to check out Fork Over Knives (you can find info on Netflix) see if it's something you may be interested in ?0

I like the 199lbs goal although my first goal is 209lbs and I hope to get there by end of July all things being well. Just had a brief look at the FOK - it's a vegetarian concept in principle isn't it? The film is not on Netflix unfortunately. I think I love my chicken and fish a bit too much to give it up!0

Slim_Kat, basically yes.. However baby steps lol I'm having chicken tonight. I know you can have fish twice a week. I love my chicken and fish as well oh and turkey!
I'm not going to beat myself up over my fish and poultry, at least its not a candy bar or a soda. I am making improvements ^_^
*if it applies... HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !0 -
What has been most effective for me is cutting carbs. Basically getting rid of most breads , sugars and pastas. Within a few days the cravings for sweets go away and it feels SO good to actually have self control again.
