Patience

I think one of my biggest issues is patience. After a couple days of dieting and exercise, I expect to have lost 20 pounds or something. Not possible. I know everybody's body and routine is different, but I guess I was just wondering, how long did it take everyone to start actually seeing results?

Since I only have about 20 lbs to lose, and I suck at the exercising thing, I feel like my loss has been sort of slow. Just over 1lb per week so far, and I'm in my third week. I was hoping for something more miraculous, but I'd rather do it slowly and the "right way" than to lose a bunch really fast then gain it back. I see this weight loss journey as more than just that, but rather a journey towards a healthier me in general -- better eating habits, more exercise, and more awareness of what/how much I'm putting in to my body.0

Well for me it didn't take long, but I also had a lot of extra weight to lose. As I get closer to my goal the weight loss slows. Don't get discouraged just keep pushing.0

It took me about a month to realise that im not going to lose the weight at the click of my fingers!! I lost 5.4lbs in the first 4 days and i slowly began to stall!! Now that im back losing again it feels great and Im happy to let the weight come off slowly and steadily!!
To think it is so easy to put the weight on.....but o so hard to burn it off!!0 -
Just as people don't become out of shape over night, (No one goes to bed looking like an Olympic Gymnast and wakes up a Biggest Loser Contestant), by the same token you don't make changes overnight in reverse either.
Your results are the "long term lifestyle changes" that you're incorporating into your everyday living which add up over time. It's about learning to make better choices than you have in the past which lead you to being a healthier you down the road.
Where you are today, is a result of the choices you have made in the past. Where you go tomorrow is a result of the choices you make today.
As the saying goes, The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a Single Step.0 -
I get really impatient too, like after I work out once I expect to drop at least a few pounds.
I've been trying to pay more attention to the accumulation of pounds lost, rather than the weekly loss. Losing .4 pounds means nothing to me, but when I realize it's all adding up, that helps me keep motivated.
I also like working with data and numbers, so I made a graph where I can see the weight going down steadily, even though it's usually little bits at a time.
And I calculate the loss per day average when MFP shows the days I log. Right now I'm at an average of .24 pounds lost a day. For some reason that seems more significant than the weekly numbers.
It just takes a while for the whole process, unfortunately.0
