Hi I'm Virginia,
My doctor just told me my triglycerides are 760 and my cholesterol is 241. She told me I had to get them down. So I have gone on a 1200 calorie a day diet. I am using this app and meds in hopes to get them down in two months when I go back. And losing 20 pounds won't hurt my feelings. I have cut out almost all processed foods and started eat veggies and fruit with salad and lean meats. I am looking for some tips on salad dressing and things like that. I have tried a couple but they are nasty. So I am using the real thing but just dipping my salad instead of pouring over it. I have gone to egg beater. And cut my soda down to one a week. My coffee is a problem I put sugar in it. I am looking for a sub that tastes like sugar. Anyways I am determined. Oh I also started walking.

They did not give you a "cholesterol diet" or food list of approved food or foods to avoid? I am shocked that you did not go home with doctor recommendations... I would fire that doctor.

Here are some hopeful foods, and best of success to you. My cholesterol numbers are now normal due to significant weight loss.

I suggest you keep with full-fat dressings made with olive oil or flax oil. These oils are good for you. Continue to watch the portion though because they can add up quickly.

Sugar doesn't have anything to do with cholesterol one way or another, but it does add calories. Sweeteners I use include Stevia and Aspartame.

Dressings are super easy. Here's a bundle of good-looking recipes I put together.

Commercial dressings seem to live forever in our refrigerator, there being just two of us. So more often these days I just make up something small to last few days.

a tiny bit of sugar in your coffee won't do anything - i wouldn't even consider that as a negative thing. you are doing all the right things - no processed foods, no soda, making your own foods etc - you will see a big difference in time.

start working out as well if you don't already.

as for salad dressing - i use olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, fresh garlic and fresh onions. yum!

be sure that 1200/day is right for your body based on your height, age, weight, activity level etc. there are online caloric target calculators to help you; i find that MFP tends to give everyone a 1200cal target (i got it but really, i'm at 1551).

you can do this!! it will take time but change your eating habits to a clean one and start working out - you will see great things by sticking to this :)
