are they bad? Is there a reason not to take a nap if you have the time?

Naps are only bad if you are a child.0

Just out of curiosity - why would you think they were bad?0

I love naps. Just don't do it for too long (like hours) or late in the day before bed. I wish I was napping right now lol.0

I could be doing busy work to keep my metabolism moving or take a nap which would slow it... Right?0

Yeah that happens sometimes when I am tired...I have done an hour of yoga and swam 22 laps today so maybe my body is telling me I should take a little break0

I think naps are under-rated. How could something that the entire culture in Mexico practice be bad? It must be better to nap than have another shot of caffeine, right? But I do love my afternoon coffee. If you have time and desire to nap, listen to your body.0

I love naps, expressly after a good work out. IF your body tells you needs the rest to heal itself, listen to it.0

Siestas every day in Spain.

Naps will not slow your metabolism.
If you get at least some exercise and stay in a caloric deficit, a nap will certainly not slow your progress. Sleep is important too.0 -
I wish I could take a nap most days, but with my job and then home to my 3 kids I don't ever get to have one0

I take power naps at least twice a day!0

Same here. Also, on the rare and elusive occasion that I have to take a nap, I immediately get too stressed out to sleep because I feel like I should be up doing something. I wish I could find a way to get past that.0 -

No...your metabolism continues at a relatively steady pace all day.
Now, if you mean you're going to nap instead of the exercise that you planned on doing and already figured into your daily calories...then yeah maybe I could see it being detrimental. Otherwise, nap away (and know that many of us are jealous you are able to do so!)0 -
Getting enough sleep is an important part of weight loss too. Like someone else said, when you get tired, it's easier to mindlessly snack. Naps forever.

If I feel the need, I will take a 20 minute nap. The trick is figuring out how much time leads to feeling energized, and how much will make you feel lethargic. You should wake up in the light sleep phase to get the best benefit. 20 minutes avoids getting to deep sleep, while 90 minutes will complete approximately 1 cycle.
Last weekend I knew I was going to have a late night, so I actually took a 90 minute nap at 4 p.m.

Nothing constructive to add. Just want to add that napping is one of my favourite hobbies.0

Yep , love me some good nap time.0

I desperately could use a nap right now.0

it depends; if it messes with your night sleep (as it does with mine), then i'll forgo a nap to have better night sleep (even though at times i really really REALLY want a nap!)0

15-20 mins....thats all I need.0

Naps are generally good, but they can cause problems if you have insomnia or depression. Otherwise, nap away!0
-
This just made my day! No more guilt over napping for me!0
-
I seem to be incapable of taking a nap that is less than 3 hours, so I don't do it very often. But yay naps!0
