Does anyone wish they LOVED lettuce?

I was reading some weight loss articles/blogs etc online, and there was a few were the person ate a PLAIN salad everyday for 1 meal, usually dinner. (It was literally lettuce (or spinach) & 2 tbsp of dressing, no toppings.).

I like salad, but I like mine with stuff on it! (tomatoes, peppers etc) .... and only like once maybe twice a week before I get tired of lettuce (or even spinach). I wish my taste-buds would say YES to that much salad.

Anyone else?

Can't do lettuce plain. Must have something delicious on it! Tonight we had shrimp tacos and used iceberg lettuce for the "shell". So good! Kept thinking "man, this would make a killer salad!"

No offense but I do not wish that at all. 1) Lettuce in general is pretty useless nutritionally. 2) I like food 3) even as awesome as Spinach is it has its limitations.

I think who ever it is that has that sad *kitten* meal is in for a rather rude awkening somewhere down the road.

I actually eat my salad like that most of the time. I eat a salad as a side to my dinner most nights, and its usually just romaine lettuce with low cal honey mustard dressing or balsamic vinegarette. I am not crazy about tomatoes and stuff on my salad....I like it with crumbled blue cheese and nuts but its more calories than I want with my dinner. If I have it at lunch I add those things.

I have a friend that really does love just lettuce salads -with very little or no dressing. I just don't get it.

there are so many kinds of lettece!!! I put the topping on usually, buy i just started going without the dressing. It's not that bad. I always feel better about using no dressing anyway

I'm the same way! I never put dressing on my salad. It's so yummy plain.
  • Throw a yummy Walden Farms dressing on it. That might help! No calories, no carbs, no fat, no this, no that...but LOTS of flavor!

I won't tell anyone how to eat or live - but I like the taste of good-tasting food. If something doesn't please my palate, I don't eat it.

I rather have something like tomatoes and peppers and cucumbers with a little crunch and taste than what is to me the filler.

I like lettuce - but in a salad as part of the salad, or in a sandwich. It's just not enough for me, and I'm not doing this to punish myself by having just grass. I want the fruits and vegetables, too.

Today for lunch I had a bag of home-made salad greens - 2 cups of chopped iceberg, 1/2 cup cut-up peppers, 1/4 cup sliced cucumbers. No dressing - just had it as part of my lunch which also included grape tomatoes and cubed chicken. So the lettuce made for a little bit of crunch & water, but I don't see it as satisfying in itself.

Your mileage may vary, of course. And that's fine. I can get low calories from cut up veggies such as zucchini or cucumbers or peppers, which to me are just more satisfying, or I can get nearly no calories from lettuce and feel like I'm depriving myself. Can't do it.

As long as it's not iceburg or treated with some kind of preservative that kills my tummy, I love it. I eat a salad, sometimes two every day; very often they are "nekkid".

TMI alert - but it also helps keep me "regular".

Nah, I don't think it has enough nutrition, I'd rather stick with spinach or a mixed leaf salad with lots of extra stuff thrown in (like cherry tomatoes, steamed broccoli, snow peas, sliced capsicum, fetta, pine nuts.... I could keep going!)

Lots of lettuces out there- a good peppery arugula adds a lot of flavor which I enjoy. I need more than lettuce in a salad but if I can add just shredded carrot or cucumber or roasted sunflower seeds I can eat quite a lot happily. I also find that rice vinegar alone makes salad more appetizing.

I love lettuce. I HATE iceberg lettuce but love the different varieties. I usually add stuff to it. spinach I add strawberries and walnuts or boiled egg a smoked tempeh. I like arugla with citrus fruits and a bit of feta cheese. Butter lettuce I could eat by itself with a good dressing, but I find it hard to find and rarely have it. I also like using wilted greens like kale or beet greens for salad. I also make my own dressings and that varies as well. I use olive oil, mirin, braggs apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, even pickle juice. My strawberry dressing is awesome! I find I use much less this way.

I think the key is variety

I like spinach, I really do! And I like arugula too (it tastes... peppery!) But I can't do the same salad EVERY night. BLEH.

I like to add tomatoes and hard boiled eggs... some baked chicken is good too. :)

My biggest weakness is that I HATE the low-sugar dressings, like vinaigrette and such. Vinegar is awful. Instead I go super light on my favorites (Catalina!)

Totally agree with this in that you should eat what you like and what tastes good. I personally like/love vinaigrette and don't much care for the super-sweet stuff, but that's just me, and I eat what I like. (I have to admit an absurd fondness for Thousand Island dressing, though. Ever since Sizzler I've had a taste combination of steak-potato-iceberg-salad-with-1000-Island-dressing fever.)

So eat what you like but eat in the right portions.

I find there's something satisfying about eating a leafy green salad (granted with more than just lettuce). If it's not prepared before hand though, I won't feel like making it.

I have a side salad with lunch and sometimes dinner. I load up on the veggies and only use 1-2 tablespoons on dressing.

I love plain salad. Lettuce and grated carrot with just a little bit of salt sprinkled on top. My mom and daughter eat it the same way, must run in the family :) We usually make salads with romain and green leaf lettuce, but my daughter also loves spinach so that gets added quite often too.

I PUT PEPPER ON MINE LAST WEEK AS I HAD NO DRESSINGS. IT WAS LOVELY! REALLY INTO IT NOW!
  • If I don't use the Walden Farms dressings, then salsa on salad is pretty yummy too.

Play with your salads. Put all kinds of things veggie wise and then try adding some cut up apple, or strawberries, or pears, or blueberries...with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing it's yummy.
