Lost appetite control after starting BC. I can't fail again HELP!

I got an IUD about two months ago for my PCOS. It was a choice between no birth control and a higher risk of cancer and other complication or the iud. I was concerned about side effects and she said the iud theoretically had the least and shouldn't cause a lot of unwanted weight gain, 5lbs tops in the first couple months. I didn't have that much of an issue with appetite control before I started it, in fact I was doing really fantastic with my eating plan. Now I'm either ALWAYS starving or always thirsty. I try drinking lots of water in hopes it will go away and when it doesn't I eat something and then when i'm done i'm thirsty/hungry again. Its a never ending cycle! I have only gained back a couple of pounds but I'm wigging out, I forget its in most of the time except when I'm starving!

Anyone else experience this when starting a new BC? Might things start to even out after a couple months? Anything I can do to help make it better or just hope I get used to it and not regain all the weight back I lost by eating myself to death? I can't not be on a BC the way my condition is but I don't wanna live the rest of my days yoyoing back and forth on the scale either!

First, sorry buy IUD for PCOS is a weird solution. Was the dr your regular ob gyn or a reproductive endocrinologist? If the first, I would go back and ask how this is going to help with PCOS exactly. What is the IUD supposed to do for PCOS?

To get relief from PCOS symptoms, the most effective and basic improvement will come from weight loss and regular exercise. Losing the weight alone and adding daily exercise, even for half an hour, will make a huge difference in all your sympotms. It might not be enough, and you might need further treatment, but it is the most important. So, anythign that does not help you with weight loss, it is not going to help with PCOS.

BC for PCOS is somethign that wsa very popular decades ago (I was diagnosed 20 years ago and it was already old school) and not something reproductive endocrinologists advise any longer, since it does not really treat anything.

I don't know about PCOS but I put a lot of weight on with the implant.

I know that contraceptives do not cause weight gain (apparently) but anything that messes with your hormones is surely going to affect you.

I had the implant taken out because of that and because I was constantly on or spotting. I now have to have the mini pill as not allowed the proper one due to migraine. Don't seem to have so many issues with it.

Have you been checked out for any other issues that may be making you hungry/thirsty? May be worth getting a full body MOT?

I have PCOS. I don't use ANY form of hormone related contraception. I was forever overweight and bloated. I've tried it all. Now my body is doing its own thing and I've lost weight, I'm much happier. Using condoms forever isn't great but hey my health comes first. BC is evil for a PCOS sufferer. I would have crazy mood swings and god knows what else. Now it doesn't happen. My depression has all but gone, my skin is loads better and like I say I've been able to lose weight. I no longer feel like I need to eat the earth clean. Lol

do you see a difference in pain now that you're off the bc?

(i can't use BC and am managing monthly pain with just nsaids. so those little f*****s are just doing whatever they want in there. pretty sure one ruptured a few months ago.)

Okay I probably worded that wrong, I told them i had issues and they ultrasounded my lady bits and told me it looked like pcos and that IUD would alleviate my other symptoms I complained about.
I have periods so infrequently I've gone six months without having one naturally and this has occured often. I get crazy pms, crazy cramps, and clots the size of silver dollars almost every time i menstruate. They are worried I get so much tissue built up that doesn't shed completely and when it doesn't shed that leaves more opportunity for abnormal cell growth to occur. Every time I would have a cycle it was so hard on my body I'd be ill for weeks. And not just period sick, like high fevers flu type sick. The IUD is helping thin the lining of my uterus walls by making it shed so I don't develop more problems down the line. I realize the iud doesn't necessarily help the cysts in any way but it has helped my flow, clots, cramps, and i haven't gotten sick since having it inserted. Also cyst issues run in my family my mother has always had cysts everywhere and has had to have some removed so I wasn't surprised when they said I had some honkers in me.

I sometimes get the odd stabbing pain around my none existent ovulation but other than that I have been SO much better without the BC.

Ithink the iud is a weird solution bc it has been known to cause pid in some people and host of other issues. I have pcos. I use no bc. I discovered vitex a herb to help get period. There is also one ther vitamin to help but I forget the name.

I had to have a dnc and the pain got better. I had a baby and now when I have a period it is like a miscarriage every time. I have had 3 miscarriages.

Only things that help is exercise and diet and the vitamins.

This article suggests you hang in there for 6 months: http://bedsider.org/features/70-paragard-vs-mirena-which-iud-is-best-for-you

What your doctor wanted you to have for your uterus was just the progesterone, right? That's why an IUD that is progesterone-only as opposed to a pill that has estrogen as well?

If you're still having problems after 6 months, maybe talk to your doctor about getting a bio-identical form of progesterone like Prometrium and use another form of birth control.

I take Prometrium and have no negative side effects. I did have side effects with synthetic progesterone.

What is your calorie target? I was most hungry when I restricted myself to around 1200 calories.

Thirst is a symptom of diabetes/high blood sugar. Has your A1C test come back normal?
