Do not listen to this person. This is mostly hogwash. Do be sure to eat enough protein and good fats, yes. But the rest is hogwash.
Eat at a caloric deficit. That is all you need to do to lose weight.
I have lost 32 lbs since January of this year and I do not, in any way, shape, or form, restrict or limit my carbs or sugars. Or potatoes. I often choose not to eat rice or pasta because usually I decide it is too many calories per serving, but if I want them, I eat them.
My only rule for food is this: I have to love it enough to make it worth the calories I am going to spend on it. That's why I usually skip bread and pasta - I just don't love it enough to justify the calories. But if I wanted it, you bet your boots I would eat it.
And I'd still lose weight.
Make sure you are logging accurately - that's usually the culprit when weight loss is slow.0 -

Unless you have a metabolic disorder like insulin resistance, are diabetic or like to eat this way this advice doesn't really apply. Low carb is helpful to some but not "the one true way" for all. Ultimately most people do best with a calorie in calories out mentality. Healthy foods have other physical advantages other than just weight loss of course.0 -
Restricting grain-based carbs worked for me, but whole grain carbs are important to overall health. Reducing ADDED sugar is key. Eating "good" fats in moderation is key. I would never advocate a "high-fat" diet. Eating a variety of whole, fresh foods from all the major food groups while lowering allover calories and increasing activity/exercise is the path to healthy, long-term weight loss.0

They didn't say it wasn't an equal volume either. I've never heard anyone say one pound of muscle weighs more than one pound of fat. So I guess we're at an impasse. It really doesn't matter - usually when people say "muscle weighs more than fat", it's completely irrelevant to the subject at hand anyway (as in this case.) I just don't get why people get so annoyed by it like it's an asinine thing to say - a square inch of muscle weighs more than a square inch of fat. Volume is implied. You can disagree, but the condescending way most people tend to disagree drives me up a wall.0 -

The part I personally was calling out was the lunacy of implying OP was putting on muscle which was masking fat loss, whilst eating at a supposed caloric deficit and running (ie - no weight lifting).0 -

My you should weight ____ in five weeks goes from 2lbs less to 24lbs less. It used to really stress me out so I would go back and add them all the average them all out. Some months I was close, others not. It's hard but so long as you have a long term trend of your weight going down, it's all good.
Ps. When my scale isn't moving as much as it should for the deficit I am in, normally it's because I got slacker with my logging and food scale use, or I don't work out as much as I should have.0 -

Muscle and fat weigh the same amount, the difference is density. Because science. Period. The issue here is that in every argument you're making you're confusing weight and density. Weight and density are two different things. How much space something takes up has nothing to do with how much it weighs.0 -

I am not missing that point, I am poking holes in your argument that muscle and fat weight the same, if that is the case than you and I weight the same because 1 lb of you weighs the same as 1 lb of me. Your argument would lead to that conclusion, but because we are different densities, and mass, and make up (muscle, fat, water) we do not weigh the same even though 1 lb of you weighs the same as 1 lb of me....

In reality it does matter, you are just proving our point that muscle and fat do not weigh the same, otherwise BF% would not matter at all.
another analogy would be to day butter has more calories than carrots, bring your argument here would then be that no, they have the same calories as 1 calorie of butter = 1 calorie of carrots.
