Breastfeeding?

I just had my little boy 13 days ago and am ready to get back on the healthy eating wagon. I had gestational diabetes and had a "special diet" which was higher carb than I should be eating now. I'm trying to adjust my calorie allowance based on breastfeeding.

How much breastfeeding is required to raise your calorie allowance? I'm not exclusively breastfeeding at the moment due to low supply but I am pumping some. Should I add only 250 extra calories since it's not exclusive but I do need extra calories?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

You're still pumping so I would do 500 to be on the safe side. Adjust is back ignore not getting the results you want.

If you are having issues with supply already you may want to go very slow on the weight loss in order to avoid any other difficulties.

Congrats on your new baby! In my opinion, if breastfeeding is really important to you, I'd take the next few weeks to just focus on your supply. Drink tons of water, eat plenty of varied, nutritious foods, sleep as much as your baby allows, feed him frequently, and look for breastfeeding support, either online, or LLL, etc. Good luck!!! There will be plenty of time to reduce calories and weight slowly- but not so with establishing an ample supply...
