Suggestions for Activity Tracker

I've been researching the FitBit, Jawbone UP, heartrate monitors... I just want something that works well with my iPhone and will accurately measure my activity. Researching these things can make you crazy! Anyone have any suggestions for something that works really well for them?

I have a Garmin Vivofit which I absolutely love!! I researched it compared to the Fitbit and it was apparently better.. I'm not sure about the other ones though!

    following along.

FWIW, I had a fitbit flex that worked pretty well. I was disappointed with the constant need to charge it every few days, but that seems to be par for the course with many of these... they are rechargeable rather than using watch-style batteries. Not my preference, but more of a nuisance than a real problem. I also only got about a year out of my flex before it died. Based on the price point and what I subjected it to, that wasn't terribly surprising, but I'd hoped for better.

Right now I'm looking primarily at the garmin offerings. I don't absolutely love garmin, but I'd like to think they are more in tune with athletes/active lifestyle and will hopefully make a more durable product. I just wish GPS was available in a band-sized device vs watch-sized. I don't want another watch.

Lastly, I don't assume any of them to be inherently accurate or inaccurate. It's just another gadget and another data point... both of which I like.

I have a Jawbone UP24. I love it. It counts steps, allows you to log nonstop based activities with time frame and effort level so you can get an estimated caloric burn based on your age, height, weight, gender...tells you your total burn at the end of the day. You can track your sleep. And set alarm for the band to vibrate. I love this feature bc I sometimes sleep with ear plugs. It also syncs with MFP so you can see calories eaten/burned.

I just recently bought the Polar m400. It does everything I want - tracks sleep, tracks steps, gives an estimated calorie burn for the entire day based on your stats and exercise, has a heart rate monitor with chest strap (the wrist ones are super inaccurate), has GPS for running and it has a great app/syncs with MFP. It has everything I can think of wanting. I loved my regular ol' polar HRM for calorie burn but wanted a tracker too. It costs around $180.

Ah .... the usual confirmation biases demonstrated in the "I have (insert device here) and love it" .

What activities do you do? What data are you really looking to track? What are you budget limits?

BrianPPerkins is absolutely correct! Which device fits your needs is imperative. IE: Do you need it to monitor water activities? (waterproof vs water resistant), or a proper HRM (wrist vs chest strap), GPS wanted? etc etc.

Each one has different pluses and minuses, and each must be weighed properly against your needs.

I just ordered the Polar M400 with HRM today. It should arrive in 3-5 days. After reading all of the positive reviews for it on different websites it looks like I definitely ordered a good one. I looked at the FB Surge, but after a bad experience with the Charge I decided to stick with Polar. I have the basic Polar FT7 HRM now and love it.

I ready like my Vivofit. I have been wearing it for 5 months. I works well with MyFitnessPal and MapMyFitness.
