Healthy high calorie snacks

I'm really struggling most days to eat all my calories - especially my exercise calories - the amount of salads and stuff I'm having at the moment is really filling me up and so I don't feel the need to snack a lot but on days like today when I have a spare 500 calories or so I end up reaching for the chocolate. Which posses the question; what are some healthy high calorie snacks?

I know nuts is a good one but sometime I really just don't fancy them... what else? I quite like to 'clean eat' when possible - I feel like it doesn't bloat me so much!

Thanks!

Trust me- you eat enough nuts and you'll be hitting that everytime!!! there are a lot of alternatives! but i like the suggestion of full fat yogurt...its still pretty good for u and can be like 200 cals

Raw nuts are so delicious and so good for our bodies, along with many other unsalted un-roasted nuts! If you're looking to eat clean, nothing like like them!

    Fresh ground PB and milk:tongue:

ETA: I also agree with the person that shared they never have this issue or can't imagine having this issue. I don't often lack options to chose, but sometimes they simply aren't in my house because I haven't restocked. But I do hear what you're saying:wink:

I like Larabars! Around 200 cals each, made of dried fruit and nuts so are small/dense- I like them crumbled into Greek yogurt with 1/2 banana sliced in. Can easily make a snack of 400-ish cals. The peanut butter and jelly is amazing!

    Other ideas:
    - add stuff like avocado/guacamole, craisins/dried fruit, roasted sweet potato and seeds to salads
    - switch breads- not sure if you eat sandwiches but some of the delicious seeded breads can be 150 cals per slice
    - nut butters- I LOVE dried fruit mixed into greek yogurt with almond butter swirled in
    - granola (I love Bear Naked fruit and nut granola, mixed into cottage cheese with banana...so good!)

Another neat thing I like is mixing peanut butter with raisins, forming into a ball and freezing. Sounds weird but it's really good.

I love avocado! I like them sprinkled with a little salt and eaten straight up or if I know I will be low on calories/fat that day I will slice them for salads or sandwiches. Or I could eat a bowl of guacamole with just a spoon. Can you tell I LOVE avocados?

Peanut butter tends to be my pantry staple go-to item when I am coming up short on calories. On toast, on crackers, on bread, on a banana, straight up off of a spoon...all good ways to eat PB!

I plan my day's meals so I can see ahead of time where I am falling with calories. If I know ahead of time I will be low, I'll add cheese to sandwiches, eat a bigger breakfast than normal, or plan an extra snack in my day.

Try an avocado and banana smoothie:

    1 haas avocado
    1 banana
1-1.5 cups of milk (if you need more calories you can use full fat)
    1 tablespoon of honey
a little bit of grated ginger

    blend

if you like your smoothies to be frozen then you can freeze your banana and avocado first.

The whole thing has about 550 calories.... I used to drink these after my workout. (course I used fat free milk to save some calories and limited myself to only HALF the smoothie) It was good because I'd burn about 900 calories in my workout but after working so hard I didn't feel like eating anything at all but the smoothie went down nice and easy and gave me 250 calories that I needed.

Once I start working out hard like that at the gym again, I'll put the smoothies back into my diet, but right now I just can't spend my calories there.

    Drink Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    1 tablespoon is 120 calories.
Mix it with Orange Juice and it tastes good.
