my body is REVOLTING against me.

Before MFP about 2 weeks ago, I was a 6 can of soda a day drinker ( at least, on a slow day) and drank a TON of extra sweet iced tea. Ever since i completely cut both from my life, I have had headaches that WONT QUIT. They start around noon, just about when i would be getting my first pepsi fix, and I go to bed with em everynight. Is this my body getting used to no caffeine? Its the only thing i can think of that would cause it. Also, im completely and utterly EXHAUSTED. I want to have a healthier life, eat right and get all my exercise..but this transition is killing me. How do you guys do it? I feel like a drug addict, needing a fix!

yup I also was a soda addict and when I finally cut them out I had headaches for atleast a week but it eventually faded and I dont get them because of that anymore. Its because you need the caffeine.. stay strong and dont give in.. it'll be worth it.0

If you had at least 6 cans of Pepsi a day, you're going through caffeine withdrawals. If you just quit cold turkey, you're going to have headaches for a while. Maybe you should take the quitting more slowly. Go down to 2 cans, and then try quitting.0

Yes, it's the lack of caffeine that is using the headaches. If you like coffee or tea, you could have a cup or two in the morning as a way to cut the headache. Once you get used to the lower level of caffeine, you could then cut those beverages out of your diet as well.0

Yes, it is.
Caffeine is a drug. And our bodies become very dependent on it. When we suddenly take it away, we go through withdrawals - just like any other drug you'd be addicted to.
It's probably going to take awhile for your body to adjust to not having it - especially when you used to drink so much of it. Best advice? Drink a ton of water and hang in there. It WILL get better.0 -
I was a 8-12 can of diet coke drinker...and the first 2-3 weeks had headaches every day and was exhausted. Once the headaches and fatigue are gone...you'll wonder why you ever did that to your body! Hang in there it's worth it!0

The headaches are indeed the result of your body withdrawing from caffeine. I only drink 2 coffees a day and if I don't have them I get a headache. This should pass soon. Make sure you are keeping yourself well hydrated with your water. As for the exhaustion, I would thing that too is your body wondering where its jolts of caffeine has gone. Make sure you getplenty of rest and eat well and this should pass soon. Hang in there, we are rooting for you!0

Maybe try a few glasses of unsweetened iced tea, and then slowly wean yourself off. It's good for you to stay away from all the sugar, but giving up caffeine cold turkey is hell.0

P.S. You could try an excedrin when you feel the headache coming on... it's got a bit of caffeine in it.0

I was the exact same way. 6 cans min a day and tons of sweet tea... cut both out cold turkey, headaches and exhaustion for awhile but once it goes away you'll feel so much better, trust me, I also added in vitamins to my diet to help the constant fatigue, look for ones that will help boost your energy, mostly ones that contain vit B12. but talk to your dr, or pharmacist on which ones to take, 3 days on them and I felt so much better.0
