I absolutely hate trying to lose weight! I always get in over my head and lose confidence that i need to continue. This time I hope it's different! I feel like if i have someone to report to and to support me, I would be more inclined to try. So here I go!

Welcome friend. I am om my 3rd attempt with MFP. The ap is awesome, but I just loved those nasty carbs and overloaded them a alot which slooooowwweeedd down my weight loss. You can't starve it all off, exercise is essential. I have 130 more lbs to go, Been going at it a few years now, and will not stop until I reach my goal. I have a grand daughter to adore.

I know the feeling. I never stuck at losing weight for long until I found MFP. With this system I have lost well over 40 lbs (46 lbs I think) and have kept it off for two years. If you follow the system and put your trust in it, it works. Weigh all your food and be honest with yourself. If you have a bad day, which we all do, don't beat yourself up, get straight back to it and carry on. All you need to do is move more and eat less than you move. Easy really.

    Don't be overwhelmed. :)
Enter all your information into MFP and eat the number of calories you're allotted. Don't worry about the macros (the breakdown of protein, fats & carbs) to start with, just concentrate on trying to come in at or under your calorie allowance. Log everything, because that's how you'll learn what's worth the calories and what isn't. Fit in some treats so you don't feel deprived and give up.
    Good luck!

Carbs aren't the enemy. ^ I lost all my weight eating @189gr of carbs per day. It's going to come down to calories in calories out. Eat at a deficit and you'll lose weight! Weigh everything you consume with a food scale and make sure that you log it accurately. That way you can be sure that your actually eating at a deficit. It doesn't have to be complicated. Just eat less.

You can't get overwhelmed when you just look at what you can do today and do it. Let tomorrow worry about itself.

Just a suggestion. Instead of trying to lose weight, maybe put your energy, time, and determination into to learning to eat the appropriate number of calories to support the weight you want to enjoy the rest of your life at. The weight will take care of itself. Keep things simple and take it one step at a time. If I can do it, anyone can!!!
