Breastfeeding??

How does it factor in on calorie need and calories burned?

I've read numerous places that breastfeeding requires 500 calories, but I'm sure that's just with a newborn who eats constantly, right? As a baby gets older surely the calories burned goes down?

For example, my son is 16 months old. I've never really kept track but I'd guess he nurses 4-6 times a day (average) so how would I factor that into my calorie need? He is, obviously, getting the bulk of his nutrition from table foods but he still nurses at least once overnight, to bed, and down for each nap and then usually once or twice during the day at just random times.

Thanks!

I still breastfeed my 17 month old 1-2 times per day. You can add it to your food log- search breastfeeding older baby. I add it to my snacks and it deducts 300 calories from my daily total, which is the correct amount needed for feeding a 15-24 month old baby who is breastfed but still on solids. I hope that helps!
