re-discovering childhood snacks

since starting this whole she-bang, i've re-discovered a few childhood snacks. low in calories and high in nutrition, there was a reason that our moms gave this stuff to us!!!
warm milk. mmmm a glass before bed is sooo nice. i have hot cocoa mix that i sometimes add, but even just plain milk is wonderful. helps you sleep, to!
hard-boiled eggs. only 70 calories, LOTS of protein, very filling, and quick to eat. i'll often grab one halfway through a five or six hour marketing shift for my work and be totally fine through the end of it. Side note, five hours of being cheerful to potential customers is tiring and boring.
bell peppers. general rule for me: crunchy=satisfying. and these have what, about 100 calories per pepper? and i only eat half of one at a time. so good.
saltine crackers and cheese, usually swiss or mozzarella.
LOL i just realized that there's a theme with these snacks. i really like my dairy.
and the childhood snacks that i KNOW are bad but eat anyway?
goldfish. in my defense, i buy a huge box and then spend an hour pouring out carefully measured serving sizes and bagging them for on-the-go. Not particularly filling, but fun to eat, so they're a nice treat when i have the extra calories.
cereal. WHY DO WE EAT THIS CRAP????? it's not at ALL filling and has so much sugar. even the "good ones." but i'll admit, it love honey bunches of oats. when i have the calorie-space.
eh, just a schpeal i thought i'd share instead of studying for my history final.

When I was a kid I really loved that cheese and cracker things that came in the plastic containers with the little red spatula to dip the cheese on the cracker.. yum lol!
Oh and I know exactly what you mean about cereal. It's all filled with sugar and not good for you but I love it sooo much, but I'm always hungry an hour or two later so I feel like it's a waste lol0 -

haha omg i remember those things! my parents would almost never buy them. i was so jealous of ne kid who had it for lunch. so yum indeeed. do they even still make them? i had a deficit of cheese as a child so i made up for it when i got older. needless to say, it kinda ruined my diet lol.0 -
I've stopped eating meat, so now hard boiled eggs are a staple of my diet. I don't know why I ever stopped eating them.0

Lots of times the database on here has errors and even a number of them on the same food. :noway: :frown: Which is a major bummer but if I have questions I now Google other Nutrition sites and double check the data.
1 large green (156g) = 33 calories
1 med red (92g) 1cup = 24.84 calories
OK, so that's what I've found after Googling and checking out about 20 food sites. Did a quick check on MFP and perhaps someone's corrected the entries you looked at formerly? I see the database has about the same as I saw on the web...
30-ish for a whole one depending on the grams of course.
Please, please don't take this as me correcting you, that's not at all what I'm doing, simply letting you know you can eat more of the Red peppers that you love because they are so High in Vitamin C and so many other awesome nutrients and fantastic things they do for our body and super low in cals. Plus very very tasty too!
Plus gotta say you had me a bit frightened thinking they might be 100 cals when I was tracking them as 30 cals, so I was checking for myself. Whew!
Enjoy all the red peppers you like:drinker: :flowerforyou:0 -

Oh yeah, they still make those. My kids beg for them constantly but I am a mean mom that will only buy them a few times a year.0 -
