Snacking On Protein Bars

Sometimes I get hungry and have reached my calorie limit for the day, if I snack on Quest Bars, will it disrupt my weight loss? Although they can be high in calories they are very high in protein and low in sugars and fat. Thoughts?

As long as you are tracking them then it shouldn't :) I love Quest bars!

If you have reached your calorie limit and you are then eating a Quest bar - that's at least 200 cals over a day. 400, or more if you are having more than one.

This might be offset if you are working out too.

But you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. Simples :)

I do track them in but I do go over my limit- is that going to disrupt my weight loss? All my snacks/meals are healthy though!

Any calories over your limit, regardless of macronutrient content or healthiness, will limit your progress... Perhaps plan your meals better so they're more filling, or account for snacks if you know you want them

It will, because everything in the bar counts towards your intake -- doesn't matter how healthy we eat, your body still recognizes it as energy. If your goal is fat loss, then you need to make sure that you are maintaining a deficit on a consistent basis. Now if you are going over your limit occasionally, it's not a big deal, but if it's often then it will hinder your success.

It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat. Even if you eat "healthy" most of the time, if you are going over your calories, yes, it can stall your weight loss.

Even if something is "healthy" you're still going to gain weight if you eat too much of it.

What you eat doesn't matter - it's how much. 200 cals from ice cream with hurt your loss the same way 200 cals from a Quest Bar will. That said, I usually eat one as a dessert after dinner. They're delicious, and I don't know why you think 200 calories is a lot. It really isn't, but anyway, yes, going over your limit will slow your loss, regardless of the source. Just make it fit into your day.

Apparently you've never had a quest bar. They're delicious and have like 24g protein.

I haven't but I've heard mixed information about them. A girl Im friends with on here said they had a chemical aftertaste. Guess I'll have to try them. I do really love ice cream though so it will be hard to beat lol.

Of course it will. You're eating an extra 160-200 calories every day.

I recommend staying away from the fruity flavors; they tend to have that taste you mentioned. The double chocolate chunk and cookies and cream are my favorites. Pop em in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and they're even better!

I've had them. And I'd rather have ice cream as well. Quest bars are not good in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

    Same!

I am really quite puzzled why people brag about quest bars. I find them soooooo disgusting. Everytime I tell someone that they tell me to try "x" flavor. If I say I don't like the texture, they tell me to warm them up. I still can't eat more than two bites. They all taste like over sweetened, chewy, disgusting, garbage to me. I mean, if you like them, good for you, but I really don't understand all the hype.

Glad I'm not alone on this, lol. I just don't get the love for them...at all.

Can you shave calories off of your other meals? You might not miss them at the time, and if you're going to be snacky at the end of the night anyway, you might as well have room for it. Or, you could work on meal timing which might keep you from getting that way in the first place. Many people on MFP suggest meals with less carbs and more fat and protein to get the most out of your calorie budget.

They do?!? Funny, I see most advocate for well rounded diet that keeps you more personally satisfied. And fat is 9cals per gram, whereas carbs are 4cals per gram, so carbs would actually give you "more"out of your calorie budget.

I need to try to! It's my snacks that always kill me- I reckon I need about 4 a day. A post work out in the morning, 2 between lunch and dinner and one after dinner! And I tend to go over despite eating extra calories from exercising but I suppose I'll just have to try harder and get into the swing of things.

I tend to take them as a substitute for muffins or cookies. They taste amazing microwaved + with a little Greek yogurt (sweetened or unsweetened depending on what you like.) And unlike ice cream they won't make your sugar cravings spike up. But this of course is all relative to how often you crave these sort of things etc.
