I don't understand what is the difference between regular plain yoghurt and greek yoghurt? Or are they the same?

    1. Greek yogurt is a blend of cream and milk, so it has a much higher percentage of milk fat (butterfat)—any where from 4% to 10%, compared to regular whole milk yogurts that generally don’t exceed 3.5% milk fat.

    2. Greek yogurt is also strained. Straining removes more water from the yogurt, making it more dense, firm and creamy.

Make sure you get 2% or fat free as regular Greek style yogurt has more calories and more fat than regular yogurt; however, it also has more protein 12 grams per 8 0z serving

I love greek yoghurt! Its so much creamier and thicker

Thannk you so much for the response. I keep reading about how we should have Greek yoghurt - it seems to be the new thing all over.
So it will give me more kcal than taking my plain 0 fat or low fat one, but more protein. Understood.

And tastes SO much better! It's worth the cals!
  • Greek Yogurt is wonderful! Try all the different brands before buying a mult-pack thought, they are all a little different in texture. Personally I like Fage the best, best texture and the fruit is on the side so you can add as little or as much as you want.

I buy the plain fage 2% without the sugary, processed fruit. Instead, I either add a little agave nectar or add my own fruit. So much better for you!

Mmmmm.... I love greek yogurt! A great dessert to try is fresh berries with greek yogurt as the base and a drizzle of honey and sprinkle some walnuts or almonds on top. I love strawberries, blueberries, mango and blackberries with mine. I like to use it as sour cream too. Try it on ground meats, my roommate pretty much hates healthy food and she will actually use this trick when I make fajitas.

I buy the plain 0% Fage or if not available the 0% Chobani, I add my own fruit or a little bit of honey. You can also use Greek Yogurt as a substitute for sour cream.

I love it. Besides almonds it's probably the best addition I have made to my food diary. I tried TONS of different flavors before I regularly added it to my 'food rotation'.

I personally LOVE the Athenos NonFat. You can get it with fruit or honey on the side. It took me a LONG time to get used the texture and taste of it, as it is REALLY different from, say, Yoplait. But the Athenos that I buy is 0g fat, only 100 calories (even with all of the strawberry sauce and it's 5.3 oz, so it's pretty big) 11 g protein (which is lower than Fage) and, most importantly for me, it only has 10 g of sugar. Most of the Yoplaits and Dannons can get up to almost 30 g of sugar for one cup! That's a whole days worth!!!!!

and Siggi's is good too but you need to put a little bit of honey in it :):flowerforyou:

Was grossed out by greek yogurt, but recently tried the Fage 2% with honey and I think I can get used to that. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I liked it, but I didn't toss it in the garbage can like I did the previous ones I had tried.
