Having a hard time accepting my body - anyone else feel this way?

Hi everyone I am new here. I thought this would be a great way to get some support.

I'm having major issues with my body after losing weight. I'm only in my early twenties, and my body looks like the body of an elderly woman (not trying to be offensive). I am embarrassed with the way I look.

My excess skin on my stomach, and my sagging breasts totally interfere with my running/exercising. I get rashes often. It's really a big mess. It's causing me to be very depressed.

Another main issue is my boyfriend. I'm embarrassed to do anything with him. I know he loves me and cares about me, but my body is not attractive. I feel like I will never be happy.

People are always saying that I should be happy and learn to love my body, but I just can't. I'm too young to be feeling this way. I don't hate myself, I think I'm a good person, but I hate the status of my body. I'm very angry at myself that I let so much damage happen to it. There's things exercise just won't fix. I wish my body looked different.

Anyone else have/had issues with what their body looks like?

This is going to sound like a "typical" answer, but do you do any form of strength training? It's not going to magically fix things, it can help fill in the skin a little. The skin will tighten a bit over time. There's a chance you may decide down the road that having the extra skin removed is beneficial to your mental health. We are by far our worst critics, so give yourself time.

How long ago did you lose the weight? How much did you lose?

Yes I work with a personal trainer and do strength training several days a week. I've lost about 120-130 pounds. I've been maintaining my weight for about 6 months, although ultimately I have about 20 pounds to go to my goal weight. My stomach looks horrible.

First of all, congrats on losing that much weight! Great job! You are truly an inspiration. You body is so much healthier for having lost the weight.

That being said, I can understand how you feel. Being in your early 20s is a plus for you. Your skin is may tighten more on its own. And as you have read strength training can help.

Talk to your boyfriend and let him know how you feel. Hopefully he will reassure you. Once you have finished your weight loss journey and you see how much your skin does or doesn't tighten, perhaps you can have surgery to remove the excess skin
