Alcohol Help! Low Calorie Wine?

Hey everyone!

I need to buy a bottle of wine (or champagne) for this thing I'm going to. I'm not really a wine person, I usually drink high balls, cocktails, shots and beer (so healthy...), but wine is classy so if you know of a low calorie wine let me know!

If you know of any great tricks to going out to a party and not wasting a weeks worth of calories, PLEASE tell me! I hate vodka sodas, but I'm guessing that's my best option right now.

Welcome!

Don't come at me with pitchforks just yet, but can you maybe just buy a good wine (please?) as your party gift and pace yourself with a few vodka tonics? If you're not a wine person, just don't drink the wine, but it doesn't have to be low-cal. Why would you do that to the other guests?!

Okay I panicked a little, but really. Low cal wine sounds depressing.

Oh it's not really a party gift. We're all bringing a bottle for ourselves hahaha. I feel like bringing a bottle of vodka with chase would look really weird if everyone was sipping wine!

It won't look wierd. You're bringing the party. Maybe grab a flavored vodka like the Stoli brand has? Just bring some limes and soda water or tonic. Hell, if you're that uncomfortable with people eyeballing your drinking, you can just drink the tonic water and lie and have a blast while everyone else gets tossed.

I drink wine on my diet. You want dry wine that has had all of the sugar fermented out, and is about 13.5% alcohol by volume. It is about 300 calories for half a bottle, or three 4 oz glasses. Some common wine varieties that are dry are Cabernet Sauvingon, Merlot, Zinfadel for red, and Sauvingon Blanc and Chardonnay for white.

All wines pretty much have the same calories...about 125 calories per glass...assuming you drink regular wine and not a port or plum wine or something extra sweet.

Well the only wine I like is moscato (I think that's how it's spelled, but I know that's higher calories because of how sweet it is). If you know of any sweet wines like moscato, that are low calorie, please comment.

tonic water has a lot of calories...might not be the best option.

They make those wine spritzers, like that Skinny Girl wine. But those are...awful.

I'm in the "either buy a good bottle or bring the real booze" camp.

If it's that important to drink the bottle of wine, then get what you like and take the lack of weight loss for the week. Other than retaining a little water its not going to undo a ton of weight loss. Unless you're doing it weekly. If it's a special enough occasion, then meh, go for it. I LOVE moscato! Waiting for my birthday to have some!

Make your own white wine spritzer with wine, ice and diet sprite or sprite zero. it will be sweet from the soda with no extra calories.

Stick to a German wine, they have lower cal counts, Reisling or Pinot Grigio.

If you like moscato you're probably not going to like a dry wine on its own. Like someone else suggested, mix it with diet sprite or something similar, it will make it sweeter and lower the calories per glass.

Or just bring what you like and enjoy yourself!

The only way to lower the calories in wine is to lower the alcohol content. I know you can get some "early harvest" wines here which have lower cals and are about 7% instead of 11%...

I was very surprised when I discovered that little fact. LOL! It doesn't seem like it would.
