Does walking really help you lose weight?

So I walked. On the treadmill. For 30 minutes. I forced myself on there. I broke a small sweat. But I'm mad about it? Why? I haven't felt any motivation to work out lately. So if I just walk, will I lose weight? I mean I'm sticking to my daily calorie goals. Do I have to do HIIT or strength training too? Or is walking alone okay?

Eating less than you burn helps lose weight. If you walk for 30 minutes, and eat the exact same amount as without walking, you are going to lose. If you then go and eat an extra treat, you will not. There is no magical exercise that burns weight without controlling what you eat. Exercise is for health and fitness mainly. If you hate the treadmill, do not bother. Find something else that works to keep you active. If it is walking that is the more convenient, walking just around the block is as effective, if not more, as walking on the treadmill.

You don't have to exercise, all you need is a calorie deficit to lose weight. Being more active will increase your tdee (the amount of calories you need to maintain) which will allow you to lose weight on higher calories.
