Hi I am new to this type of forum thingy. I think it could help though. I lost 3 stone two years ago but have put most of it back on. I have just had knee surgery and have a second operation in two weeks so am not able to do exercise. I need to lose weight to not only help my knees but also my self esteem looking forward to meeting people:)

Fast is hard to do. Do you really need to lose it fast? Or just want it to be over?
Weight loss and keeping it off is a long term game. MFP is a really useful tool for that. But it's really about changing the way you look at food, not about some quick gimmick that lets you shed pounds, that you regain in a few years.

Thanks, I didn't really mean fast as such just that I need to get my act in gear fast as I keep putting it off. You're right in that the weight will come off slowly and is a way of changing how we think about food. I am sure through this calorie app that it will really help me do that x0

Thanks Em, really good to have others to motivate. I am having knee surgery in two weeks so exercise is limited but today is first proper day of diet so here goes....0

Just wanted to chime in and say you can lose weight without exercise so don't let that hold you back. I lost 90% of my weight without any form of exercise. All you need to lose weight is to eat at a calorie deficit. Exercise is really more for health. You can do this!0

calculate your TDEE here: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/
eat 75-80% of that number.
you don't need to eliminate anything from your diet to be successful. carbs, fat, salt, sugar, white bread, white rice, cake, nachos, alcohol can all be consumed, provided you do it in moderation.
exercise if you want.
so many people needlessly over-complicate this, but at the end of the day, for weight loss, it's cals in vs. cals out.
you don't need to cleanse, go keto/paleo/vegan, 'jump start' your metabolism, stop eating at 8pm, or wear plastic wrap around your waist.
eat what you like until you hit your macros/calorie allowance.
good luck, and i hope surgery goes well!0
