So let me get this straight

    You are NOT diabetic

And you are following a diet designed for Diabetics

    What the...
    C'n I...
    I can't even...

    ...but why?

You are on an all diabetic diet? I see from your post that you are a non diabetic...

I do not do a diabetic diet or anything like that but do I opt for higher protein and moderate fat.. I work out so I like for my diet and food choices to aid in my recovery and maintaining my muscle mass..

I do a lot of searches for stuff on google, and my recipe book is flooded with desserts that are lower carb (such as cooking with almond flour instead of white flour) and I exchange things like white carbs and full sugar soda to diet soda, but I eat pretty much everything normal..

For example, I eat brown rice instead of white, white pasta for wheat pasta, whole grain or multi grain bread for white bread, white potatoes for sweet potatos, low glycemic veggies and limited on fruits (on occasion). I eat a lot of steamed vegetables, I do eat diary (yogurt, milk, ice cream (sugar free of course) and for fats I add butter, love nut butters, and cook with coconut oil and olive oil, etc..

I love carbs and I like to be able to add something yummy at the end of the day rather it is low carb or sugar free.

Of course you do not have to cut or exchange anything you like, just eat them in moderation and within your calorie goals... just saying...

When did the OP say they weren't diabetic or pre-diabetic?

The diabetic regimen is known to be very healthy as it is balanced, contains all the macros, and includes plenty of fruits and vegetables. I don't consider "low carb" to be a diabetic diet.

Here's the US FDA's illustration of "choose my plate" which to me sums up the balanced diabetic approach.

@polijex , instead of cutting certain foods, look at diabetic eating as a balancing act, always including as many food groups in a meal as possible. Don't skip meals or snacks. I continue to drink diet soda and eat bread. I always have something with my bread however, like cheese, hummus, or tuna, to slow down digestion and extend satiety.

    In the title

Oh I agree the diabetic diet is healthy

But it includes restrictions that a non diabetic does not need to follow

I've been eating like this for twenty years as I've said, and I received all my training from nurses and dietitians educated in this sort of thing.

Glucose is not the enemy. Even diabetics need it, and for type 1's absolutely critical that they have it when they are low. The balanced plate allows for a steady supply of glucose as the rate of digestion/metabolism varies by food group.

I missed it to, but it's right there in the title.

    Hahah I see that now.

I eat this way too on recommendation
Only thing i had to cut totally is salt...thats the big nono for me ( medical reasons)

But eating this way even prevented to become a diabetic ...my sugar levels are excellent. And i eat my fruit and even have some sugar sometimes...key is sometimes!

So nothing bad with that kinda eating/foods.... its very balanced

But why do you want to follow a diet that is specifically geared to a medical condition rather than any other

Of course you are at liberty to do whatever you wish to, I'm just interested

At the heart of the diet, like all diets is the premise that you ingest fewer calories than you burn and there is nothing unhealthy in following it...it just strikes me as a little of an odd restriction

It's really not a "diet" though but more of a way of eating. If you continue to eat above your maintenance calories, you will gain weight. I follow a very loose "diabetic diet" (the carbs they recommend per meal causes me to spike way too much, especially with breakfast. I find it more beneficial to adjust my macros to closely match my insulin's activity curve), but I'm going to gain weight if I eat above my maintenance.

With the plate method for a diabetic diet, I thought that it was something along the lines of:
    -1/2 plate nonstarchy vegetables
-1/4 plate starchy vegetables or whole grains
    -1/4 plate lean meat
-Fruit and dairy if you still have extra carbs to use (or substitute with the starchy portion of the plate)
-Water, unsweetened coffee or tea, or diet soda for drinks.

Sorry to interrupt this topic, but what do the jail bars over a person's picture mean? I keep seeing those and wondering about them.

bread is okay so long as it is a whole grain bread... carbs are okay so long as you balance it with fiber... "excessive sugar" is a no-no...everything in moderation... that is coming from my Nutritionist (and diabetes counselor)

it means you been a bad boy on myfitnesspal

So, it means a person has received a flag or a report of abuse or something? How many flags or reports does one have to receive before MFP passes this sentence and how long does the jail sentence last?

Sorry if I'm being too nosy. I have seen a smattering of these jail bars in various forums and I wondered what it was all about.

Its a healthy diet for anyone. I think when people hear Diabetic diet the think its a no carb type of thing. I am type 2 and off my meds due to weight loss and exercise. I have in the past and currently eat carbs including bread fruit pasta.

I'm type 1 diabetic and has been for 46 yrs. My endocrinologist recommend 1200 to 1500 calories per day and 185 grams of carb per day. I don't think of this as a diabetic diet or diet at all. It's a life time change and will be on this for life, this is probably the best to follow. First always ask your physician in any changes you make. You can eat anything, but it needs to be plan in your daily meals. If you are on insulin, your physician will probably have you court carbs. Which is a bolus and he will have set your Basel rate, carb ratio etc..
