How do you stay on track near menstrual? I have so many cravings and they are literally unbearable. This can't just be me? What helps?

You know what helps me? Not wanting to be fat any more. I make sure I allow myself some calories for a sweet treat. Last night I had 250 calories worth of chocolate (I had just started). Make room for a treat. Ignore the cravings. It really does have to be mind over matter with weight loss. xx0

I feel ya! It's always chips or chocolate for me, and i can eat mind-blowingly huge portions of both. The only thing i found that works for me is eating a bag of frozen veggies first, then giving into the craving. That way I'm already pretty full so i can't go overboard.0

I eat at maintenance for a couple of days.0

I feel like the odd one out. My eating habits have never been different based on my period, but I hear women talk about this all the time.0

Be aware of your hunger patterns and adjust accordingly.
I allow myself more calories when my appetite is higher pre-menstrual as I know my appetite will drop below normal once it arrives, so it all balances out.0 -
I buy things to offset the cravings.
For example, I know I'm going to want something chocolate. So I make sure the fridge is stocked with the Jello Dark Chocolate Mouse Pudding cups (60 calories a cup). I also want something salty. The Eating Right PopChips from Safeway are 21 or 22 (depending on flavour) chips for 120 calories. I could eat the entire bag for 360 if I was really going crazy. The Healthy Choice ice cream fudge bars are 100 calories a piece too.
For the last two cycles I've been upping my water consumption as well. It's a struggle but I'm learning how o deal with it.0 -

Me neither--it has never had any influence on my eating. The idea of PMS is mostly cultural...here's an interesting take on the issue.

I agree with the poster above who says it kinda balances out, I'm the same, I get wicked cravings before my period but during, I have zero appetite, but still some cravings, usually sweets or salt. If I want something sweet, I air pop popcorn, melt Hershey's milk chocolate or nutella spread and peanut butter together and drizzle it on the popcorn and toss. It's delicious and like 100 calories for the entire bowl0

I just posted about the same issu, its completely killing my progress! I have severe pms for 10 days a month during which I feel sick if I'm not eating constantly and Im too tired to move. So frustrating! Im wondering of I should be looking into some kind of supplement or something...0

I go for it. Every time. It usually is only for 2 days of the month - 1 during ovulation, 1 at the beginning of TOM. But last time for example I had about 4 days in a row (unusual) and I just let it happen
My main things are:
- eat some 'normal' food first (an actual balanced meal, for instance)
- drink tea; this is a comfort drink for me and hits a sweet spot and is low in calories
- happily go over my calories... and balance that out where possible with increased exercise
I go by weekly calories. Maintenance is 3500cals over my deficit allowance and I don't normally actually eat near that amount (the 4 days stint put me 1000cals over deficit over the week so still had a deficit of 2500cals). This is because I increase exercise if necessary. Also I find like others that it does balance out, and after a day of crazy eating I tend to have a low appetite for a couple of days.0 -
