Hiya. I am 10 days in to MFP and am finding it great!!! 4lbs gone in 1 week :)

However I can't get my head around cooked pasta an rice :/ I eat pasta twists and white basmati rice. I weighed out a pathetic 150g of cooked pasta tonight and it can up over 500 cals!!! I think I am getting dried vs. Cooked mixed up. What should I be counting?

Thank you :)

weigh it dry, and use the entry in the database for dry

2 ounces, of dried pasta (elbow macaroni, for instance) is 210 calories. 2 oz = 1/2 cup = 56.69 grams. It pretty much doubles in size when cooked... so if you start out with 1/2 cup, you end up with about 1 full cup cooked - not a bad serving size.
    Good luck :)

I weigh mine cooked because I cook for more than myself -- just find an entry that is for cooked portions and use that. Fair warning though, rice and pasta are really high in carbs so your "pathetic" portion unfortunately may be correct haha

Yeah it was all wrong! Saved 200cal by basing it on 200g of cooked pasta twists! 200g of dried would have fed the whole family! Phew!

Try making cauliflower rice. It's amazing and so low cal.

i weigh my pasta dry, in 2 oz portions. Sometimes 4 oz if I am super hungry. For rice, I used a "cooked" entry, and weigh out portions after the rice is done cooking.
