Find something else to do? Get to know your eating triggers and do something else. Exercise helps suppress appetite so go for a walk or run until you lose the desire to eat. Always have carrots or celery nearby for those times when you just 'have to eat'.

You might want to speak with a professional to get to the reason behind your binge eating, especially if it's triggered by depression. Until then, remove those trigger foods from your home.

Are you just over eating or actually binge eating? Actual binge eating requires psychological/psychiatric intervention.

Volunteer work could be good on a number of levels.

    - It could help integrate you into the community.
    - It can also be good for your psyche to help others when you are depressed.

Are you exercising enough? That's also good for depression.

If she's binge eating from depression, it's not so simple to say "stop it".

Pinky, you need to get some help for your depression so that you can get your eating under control.

I know it's hard when you live away from home. I've lived away from my home country and family for 4 years ow (and I was in Asia for 3 years!). It's tough. Do you work? Study? Good suggestions above regarding volunteering and getting involved with the local community. Making friends will help.

This thread will go nowhere until what she means by binging is defined.

BED is something that saying STOP IT to is not going to help.

Eating a bag of potato chips because she's depressed? We can have a bit of a conversation.

Not just depression, but also probably loneliness. OP, do you have friends or family in your new home? It can be so hard to be alone in a new place without knowing anyone and struggling to set up a new life -- it can feel like food is the only source of comfort or pleasure there is. Try being a little more social (either with existing friends or by making new ones) and talking to a therapist about why you turn to food to soothe these feelings. And good luck to you in your new place; I bet in six months it'll feel just like home.

I also binge eat almost on a daily basis. I've been doing it since I was 5 and will be 34 in a couple of months.

Well... if you are bored find something to do.

As for depression. Are you clinically depressed or just sad and lonely and maybe a little homesick. Go here and find out.http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/depquiz.htm

If the former you need to speak to your Dr about this and get help. If the later again find something to do. Find a new hobby that gets you out and doing something. Take a class of some kind, volunteer, join a gym, get a hobby that involves people and gets you out of the house.

The eating is a symptom of a bigger problem. Fix the problem and the symptom will take care of itself.
