Bad Salad!

I am so frustrated! My inlaws unexpectedly took us out to luch after my son's baseball game today so I wasn't able to look up the nurtion facts prior to going out to eat. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, thinking I was making a good choice. When I got home I looked up the nutrion info and the salad had more calories than I'm allowed for the whole day! I worked out today but will still be over my calories. I understand that one meal won't cause me to gain weight, it's just feels like I've undone some of my hard work. The salad wasn't even that good, so not worth it!

    Salads are dangerous in resturants!!

What I've learned to look for:

    1) ALWAYS - no exceptions - get the dressing on the side
    2) Nuts are good for you - but if you are really watching calories, the salad is not the place to have them
    3) Order without croutons or cheese or order with 1/2 the cheese
    4) Make sure any meat on the salad is grilled

I had a fantastic salad for 300 calories today -- goat cheese, strawberries, grapes almonds with mixed greens. Basalmic glaze on the side. Ordered with 1/2 the goat cheese and almonds as normal. It would have been 600 (yikes) with full goat cheese and almonds. And closer to 800 with the dressing.

There is a great application called "Eat this Not That," the only downside is it confirms that most "healthy choices" are really not healthy. For instance, a burger usually has less calories than a salad from a restaurant - very sad! if you have an andriod or an iphone you can download an application that will tell you the nutritional information of most restaurants

You know, that's the case SO many times!! I look up Wendy's salads for lunch and end up opting for a grilled chicken sandwich (which I take the bun off) and a small chili!! My favorite salad there is like 800-900 calories!! One day won't kill your efforts...and if you went over in calories, for the most part, the veggies and chicken are highly nutritional. It's probably just dressing/cheese/croutons that were culprits.

Dont worry too much. You did what you had to do at the time. At least you didnt get a huge burger and fries with icecream LOL So overall I think you did great. Dont beat yourself up over it. It's ok. Hope you have a great rest of the day

I know exactly how you feel I went to TGI Fridays and ordered a BBQ chicken salad I read the ingredients and asked for the cheese on the side so I could control how much I ate there was no mention of the dressing on the menu so I figured that the BBQ sauce was it but when it was served up and I had eaten most of it did I realise there was a whole pile of ranch dressing in the bottom of the bowl and when I checked the calorie content it was 749cals I thought to myself I wish I had had a burger or even a steak less calories and I would have enjoyed it much more x don't let it get you down thou as you said one bad meal doesn't ruin your progress xx
