This metabolism article...

...agrees with a lot of the advice frequently seen on the MFP forums, e.g. meal timing doesn't matter, overweight people underestimate intake more than normal weight people (who also underestimate), no foods boost metabolism but strength training will, etc. It's a Yahoo article, not a scientific journal, although it does link to studies referenced.

FWIW, it offers an argument against breakfast I haven't seen before, different from the IF rationale I've seen. Other thoughts? Observations?

haha. I'm not a big breakfast eater, either. But don't try messing with my coffee!0 -
Good read! Thanks for sharing

I didn't see anything bad about it...I've read similar articles on the Mayo clinic website.
I liked it enough I posted it to my facebook....
as for breakfast yah I agree if you don't want to eat it...don't...I have to eat it...I am starved usually right at 8:30 because I stop drinking coffee at 7:30...so I eat breakfast about 1 hour after my coffee is done on the weekends too.0 -

^This.
Just one nit to pick with the article. Its use of the word "torch". A torch is something wielded by an angry villager. Or an action taken at Viking funerals or, hyperbolically, by one sports team against another. It annoys me to see it used to see it used in conjunction with either metabolism or body fat. Because I'm easily annoyed by such things.

Breakfast is good for you, no matter whether it jumpstarts your metabolism or not, so if this article is arguing against it, I wouldn't suggest paying attention to it.0

Everyone technically eats breakfast at some point. The article merely states that the whole idea of breakfast "jump-starting your metabolism" is false and that eating a big breakfast could be counterproductive and goes into some explanation of why it might be a good idea to delay breakfast or eat a light breakfast if you can't.
A sampling of two different articles I've read today show that two different articles concluded two different things about breakfast.
Reading MFP for months has shown me that some people do better with appetite regulation when they eat a good breakfast and for others, this is a recipe for disaster.
tl;dr Blanket statements about the "goodness" of breakfast are about as useful as chocolate teapots.

Not for me. I always mean to look into whether there's a hormonal response or something, but if I eat in the AM (fruit/coffee aside), I am ravenous all the way to bedtime.0 -

Same. Delaying breakfast made a huge change in my eating habits and greatly reduced my appetite.

There's no reason to eat if you aren't hungry, unless you happen to be going somewhere or doing something and you won't have an opportunity to eat later.

Same as above posters. If I eat breakfast I won't stop eating all day. If I avoid breakfast, seeing that I'm not actually hungry anyway, I won't eat until 3 or 4 and still won't be ravenous by that time. It's weird. I kind of just fell into IF and we fit together beautifully.0

Same. I want to eat at 2 and then I'm okay til dinner and then I have a night time snack. I run in the morning too so you'd think this wouldn't work for me, but I was like this as a kid too. No telling how much weight I gained on healthy breakfasts!0 -
Why would breakfast be "good for you." And in what way? I am a breakfast eater because I am hungry, but I don't think my body can tell time.0

Do not come between me and I my breakfast...ever. If you even try to get between me and my breakfast, I become very dangerous and hangry and oh so unpleasant. I love my breakfast and I won't give it up.
Breakfast is neither good for you or bad for you; to eat or not to eat it is preference only.0 -
