You can't really spot reduce to target certain areas. you will need to make sure that you are eating at a calorie deficit to help get rid of any fat that may be hiding your abs, then you could try core strengthening moves like planks, superman, hundreds, flutter kicks, and more to develop your ab muscles.

You have abs - they're just hidden. You need to lower your body fat % enough to make them visible - it is quite low for a woman and perhaps not sustainable depending on how visible you want them..... If you're consistent with your deficit, you will lose the weight from your tummy!

It's perfectly sustainable, unless she wants ripped abs like a man, then she would need steroids and a really low BF%.

OP, you need to get your body fat down near 20% to get some definition in your stomach. That's the low end of the healthy range for women, but still perfectly sustainable.

My definition of abs is clearly different to yours. I am not a man, nor am I on steroids, but decent "abs" to me requires unsustainabley low BF for a woman.

Why do women need steroids to get abs?!

I never said that..... You misinterpreted what I said. I'll rephrase.

The only abs that will be unsustainable are ones with extremely low BF, probably less than 15%, where they look ripped and Manly. And the only way to sustain those would be steroids. I'm also assuming most women don't want to look like that. Women will definitely see their abs and can sustain them around 20%.

I am about 10lbs from my goal and its all on my tummy! That seems to be the last place to go for a lot of people. We just have to be patient and keep up the calorie deficit. They are in there somewhere, we've just got to let them show! I do work my abs so that they'll be good for when the fat goes and they can be seen. I can feel them and am beginning to be able to see them but I think part of that is wishful thinking!

My body fat is 30% so I have to get it down 20% then before I get my flat stomach

Everyone will be different. It depends on how much muscle you have, but 20% is a ballpark number for when women start to see their abs. Just focus on losing body fat, and not worry about the numbers too much.

Everyone is different, but generally the percentages work something like this:

    http://builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/
That 10-12% range is what I would think of when galgenstrick talks about hard abs that are probably unsustainable for most women.

Whether the percentages are right or not, yes - the 10-12% picture is what I consider having abs (or showing them at least).

And... I've sustained that for a year without steroids (a few years ago when I competed all year and thought having abs an striations 24/7 was attractive, and being lean was awesome and healthy :s )

The sensor they use in a gym registers my body fat at 34%, but I look like the woman in 25% , but with more definition. Everyone's body is different.

Stand up straight. Get to your goal weight, do strength training.
