Hello!
Let me start off with my stats/goals. I'm 5'4" with a very petite bone structure. Right now I'm around 107 lbs, but I'm what I'd describe as "skinny fat". I'm working on eating healthier using the food tracker on this app. What I really need help with is exercise.

I used to be an avid runner on my school's cross country/ track team. However, I have since stopped running. After I could no longer run with my old team, I stopped entirely because I don't feel safe running in my sketchy neighborhood. Since then I've lost all of my muscle tone. Currently, I do a dance class for about 40 minutes everyday, however it is very mild and it isn't helping much (and I am looking to quit beccause I don't really like it). Can any of you suggest exercises I could do to tone up/ cardio for small spaces or ways to run alone safely? Thanks!

I had your physique before, born skinny fat. How i overcame it may differ from many people out there, but the most i can do is give you my opinion. I am currently in my 2nd year at the gym, i decided to do a lean bulk first since that way will let your body have some sort of muscles under the fats and when you cut down, all the fats will be gone but still contain some muscles.

See if there is a local running group in your area or a "Moms Run This Town" Facebook group in your area that you can join. I found a running group in my small town and absolutely love it! The Moms group is women looking for running partners to prevent having to run alone and sometimes will do group runs too. The group in my area do not require you to have children in order to participate and one in your area may be the same.

Try some strength training with kettlebells, planks, pushups and other body weight exercises that you can do in a small area to help you tone up.

@AlvinWongFitness thanks! What exactly would a "Lean Bulk" entail? Any specific exercises you would suggest?

@debubbie that sounds like a great idea! I don't have any children though, so I'm not sure if a mom's group would be best, but I love the idea of looking for a women's running group. I really like to run out on the streets and I miss being able to do that.

@katecat27 the mom's group have women of different ages and running abilities looking to find safety in numbers when running. Many will post when they want to run and other ladies show up if it fits in their schedule. It may help you to find a few people that you can count on to go running with you to help you feel safe while running.
