Ok, so I originally started my weight at 356 (I know horrible) I am currently around 312, and can go at a steady 5.5 mph on a treadmill for a mile with quite a bit of energy to spare. I was wondering if that's good for someone my size? And was also wondering should I start doing interval running, slow down, speed up, slow down etc? My diet is actually very healthy and I try to stick in the 1700 calorie range, any tips or input is greatly appreciated! Also should I start lifting more as I only lift maybe three times a week, the rest all cardio

I'm 188 and I've never been able to run in my life, so I'd say that's fantastic.
Do the exercises you like at the speed/time you feel comfortable with. If your lifting is a full-body routine, three times a week is good for that.0 -
I think that's fantastic and interval will definitely be good to train your body to go for longer, but you should check with a doctor as well. You don't want to kill your knees or heart. Do the exercises that make you happy! If you want to lift more often, go for it! What are your goals?0

I'm 135 lbs and can't run at all(it's just not my thing) !! So I'd say that your doing fantastic !! You should be very proud of yourself!!
Lifting three times per week is great! If you'd like to do more, that's up to you. But I think lifting is a great idea and you'll be very happy later on that you've made the choice to lift.

I've never been able to run more than maybe a 1/4 of a mile! I'd say that you're making good progress.

I suggest going to a sporting good store that as a running specialist and have them fit you into a good pair of shoes.0 -

As for my goals, I wanna lose back down to where I was before I had my back surgery and that's 220. What's crazy is I use to hate running or well cardio in general, but now it's like a drug lol, I'd love to be able to eventually do a marathon, or heck even a 5k race would be awesome! (I know I'm lame)0 -

Not lame at all! If you want to train for a 5K, there is the Couch to 5K you can get for your phone. It's from zen labs and is free. I used it for a while to build up some endurance. It tells you when to walk and when to jog.0

I'm 110, and I couldn't run more than 1/4 mile even if a bear was chasing me. (Bad, example; you're supposed to play dead, right?). But you get the point. The only person you should compare yourself to is you. Sounds like you are doing great.0

^^^ I cant run at all! I reached my original goal (145 lbs) about a year ago through eating clean and moving more. I didn't do much cardio, but I walked about 2 miles each day to and from work and I would occasionally go to the gym. I just started lifting and I have no clue what I'm doing so I guess my next goal would be to figure that out. I think you'll reach 220 in no time if you stick with your plan! Seriously, keep yourself motivated! That's the tough part!0

I couldn't run more than two minutes at the beginning of the year and now I keep having to set new goals as I achieve them! Don't play dead with a black bear, or with a grizzly that appears "predatory" (assuming you can read ursine social cues). Best just to drop the backpack and run. That's amazing you got your goal!! The weights ain't bad if you need any advice I can throw some your way, believe it or not not too long ago I wasn't a chunky monkey lol, keep up the awesome work everyone!!0 -

When exercising, listen to your body. If you are able to do 5.5 on the treadmill without being out of breath, that's a good indicator that you can probably do more if you felt like it.
Exercise type is really up to you.0 -
I've always been able to run, even when I carried 180 - 190 pounds on my 5 ft. 5 body.0
