I'm a pretty picky eater, I dont really like any vegetables, I'm willing to try different things I just don't know where to start? I'm about to join a gym and start working out often but I feel like it will go to waste if I don't eat right. Any suggestions on where I can find good healthy meals or any that you know of? Thanks guys!

First, the gym is an awesome investment in yourself. Your diet will evolve over time so go for it with the gym! Just get in there and do it. Sometimes the interactions with real people can get you out of a funk too.

For vegetables it's good to find what you LIKE. By trying different things you might find you like some you never used to like. I've never liked Brussel sprouts but I like them now (not plain!)

I'm pretty busy so I like to steam a variety of veggies and keep them in the fridge. I cook a variety of meats and poultry and usually steam a batch of rice and keep this all in the fridge.

Then I take those pre cooked ingredients and make a custom soup, stew, taco, burrito, sandwich, or whatever I'm in the mood for. Since it's just reheating with chicken broth and spices I can whip it together in minutes, like this soup the other day:

I only like a few veggies raw like carrots and tomatoes, or cucumbers.

Sometimes I mix cucumbers with fruit like melons, apple slices, and frozen blueberries for a fruit salad. The cucumbers bulk up the fruit with less calories.

Healthy low cal meals are ALL OVER the internet; pinterest. the MFP blog, millions of personal blogs and websites. All you have to do is go to a search engine and type in the word recipe and the vegetable you are interested in.

It's most important to find what you LIKE that has the added benefit of being healthy for you and fitting into your calorie budget.

That looks and sounds awesome I will definitely try that. Yeah I'm actually excited for the gym I do like it and have joined before but school got in the way. Thanks a lot!! Is fruit ok too? I love any kind of fruit, I've just heard there can be alot of sugar but you can really control that?

I like most veggies, myself. I'd say, keep trying them and find a few you love so you can use those often.

I really love my veggies roasted.

If you want to add a few into your diet but not change much, chop them up small and then add them to what you normally eat. You could add chopped bell pepper into your burger meat. Chopped portobello mushroom (or even puréed) into your tomato sauce. Sneak in your veggies. You may develop a taste for them and be able to eat them in larger quantities later!

Yes I LOVE fruit. Mainly it's all about calories for fat loss and maintaining. So that is the main reason to limit fruit (when you are trying to lose weight). The lowest calorie fruits are berries, melons, apples, in limited amounts. I'm eating more of them now because I'm done with my 3 year fat loss and have been maintaining several years now.

We all feel best when we focus on protein/veggies on a diet for fat loss and muscle building, then just add in enough carbs/fat for energy taste, and then the diet will fall into place if you maintain a calorie budget. That's why I keep the cooked veggies and protein on hand - it makes it quick and it's what we need most. That way the meal can be custom built depending on what you ate for the day already. The last meal of the day can make or break the budget so customizing the meal is key for me.

Fruit is great. Count their calories.

I sometimes struggle with getting my veggies in. Now that the warmer weather is here, I have been roasting my veggies in a cast iron pan on the BBQ, while I grill my meat. I have *LOVED* everything so far! Even sweet potatoes... and I don't like "sweet" anything for meals (just desserts).

I think that you have to keep trying different methods to find what you really like. Also, sometimes I just don't want to eat the veggies, but then I think about how much nutrients it can provide me, as opposed to a bag of chips, for example. Sometimes, that alone helps me get over the "not wanting" to eat it.

I will totally try that! I just want to feel better about myself, I have to start somewhere. I also want to be a chef when I'm older so I have to learn to like different foods now. Thanks both of you! I'm going to plan some meals now

Ah yes, roasted veggies are the BEST!!! <3 I have not had time for that lately, but I'm still getting my veggies in so it's all good.
