i am wondering when nutrition facts are posted for an item or already in the system, why sugar alcohols is not added in as total sugar for a food item. Sugar alcohols just seem to be left out.

Because Sugar Alcohol isn't sugar. It is a hybrid between a sugar molecule and an alcohol molecule. It's known actually as a Polyol and is "classified" as a carbohydrate. It's usually either really low calorie or calorie free natural sweetener.

I don't know about anywhere else, but sugar alcohols are not shown on the nutritional labels so it would be impossible to know the actual values.

Though you will know when you've too much of them by the measure of wind / gas or diarrhea.

On what foods? Not shown on sugar free items for instance?
