Discouraged, Need Advice

For 20 days now I have been at a stand still. Actually, I have put on a pound and I have no idea why. I stick to my calories. I usually hit almost exactly 1200. I was just given permission to start working out again from my doctor and I have been working out everyday for the last 5 days since then. I have heard there are ways you can help break through a plateau but I don't know what those are. Please, if you have any suggestions on how to start losing again let me know, because I am completely at a loss of what to try now.

How close are you to your goal weight? It could be that your body just decided that you're there already. I know it sounds silly but my body does that right around 140. I can go insane and up my workouts and watch every calorie but at 140 my body evens out. But, you asked about Plateaus, so...
Make sure you're getting 8 - 10 glasses of water a day
If you're only eating 1200 calories AND working out, add more calories you're starving yourself. Use the food log and add in the calories for your workout.
Perhaps 1200 calories is too low for you? Up it to 1500 for a few days and see?
Make every calorie count - skip the ff/sf crap and eat real fruit and vegetables, get your protein and whole grains in

I have heard a true plateau is 5 weeks with absolutely NO weight OR inches lost. I.e, sometimes we lose weight but don't feel it in our bodies... sometimes the body is shrinking (catching up) even when do do not see a weight/lb loss.0

I am still 15 pounds from my goal weight. So I really hope this isn't where I'm suppose to be. Thank you for your suggestions, I should be drinking more water for sure.
And I really hope this plateau doesn't last 5 weeks.0 -
OMG, are you reading my thoughts. I just posted the same thing on my wall. I am so anxious to read the posts...you are much closer to your goal...I haven't even lost 10lbs yet.....0

Changing things up usually breaks my plateaus (I've had three short ones). Zig-zagging calories, meaning you go slightly under your regular calorie consumption on some days and slightly over on other days, remaining at the same total calorie count for the week that you would have otherwise. Changing up your exercise routine, either through the intensity, duration, or incorporating new exercises altogether. Also plenty of water and rest, don't forget that you need that too.0
