I'm a bit scared to check my weight before I start eating healthier.I know ill get upset when I see the number and it'll mess with my head. But if I don't check then I won't know my progress. What should I do?

What I've always done is give it a couple of weeks eating properly, then jump on the scales. Which, ends up in a disappointing number anyway!
Had I done it to start with, at least I would have seen an encouraging drop after the fortnight as those first few lbs are "easy" to lose.
You have to do what's best for you, it's just a number, it doesn't change anything but I know it's very easy to say...0 -
Do you just want to eat better food - no processed, meals, reduced fat/sugar intake? Then does your weight matter?
However, if you want to lose weight as well as making good food choices, you can't possibly track your progress without checking your weight. But also check your measurements with a tape measure, and make a note. What I did, as well as logging on here, was get a little notebook and record weight AND measurements once a week (after bathroom, before breakfast). If you exercise as well as reducing your calorie intake, your measurements will change but some weeks your weight won't - and as all us ladies know, sometimes our weight fluctuates whatever we do! And if you have a couple of weeks where you don't think you are making progress, you can look back at where you started!0 -
You guys are right. I am going to keep track. I do want to loose weight but afterwards I still want that healthy lifestyle. I was just scared of not committing and knowing how much I weight but I think I got this.0

I second that I would weigh and measure. I find the weeks that people plateau they have lost mm's from their waist etc. It gives a better all round picture. Jump on and get it done, it is your starting point. There's no shame in it, just use it as motivation to see that number creep down. Good luck0

Just saw this! There's a far better answer than mine, about the weight being just a number. You weigh whatever you do whether you know that number or not!
But, by weighing yourself, you're taking accountability for it. You might want to have a read

Hey thanks for that link. a lot of it helped honestly0 -
Do it! You might not be happy with the number you see now. I know I wasn't, which is why I'm here. Before long, though, I was running around telling everyone about MFP like it's my pretty new pet. Now at every weigh-in, it's like "Look at what my pet did this week!" You might not be as neurotic about it as me, but seeing that big number get smaller and smaller, you'll feel the same way. I pinky promise!0
