I love these Sensible Portions cinnamon apple straws when I need something crunchy that is also not so bad for you...

But I decided to weigh them on a scale today instead of reaching for the usual 38 that they SAY is the portion size...can you say WAY off!! 20 straws was 1 ounce, that is almost HALF of what they say constitutes a serving!!
Bad on them!
Goes to show you that you REALLY have to measure everything! I don't mind wasting 130 calories, but wasting 260 calories? Nope.

Good point! I try to weigh most things, but have been guilty of taking the manufacturer's word for what makes a portion size.
Thanks for pointing that out!0 -
Wow! Now I feel bad for eating so many of those0

I wrote them an email. They really should be aware of this! Totally irresponsible on their part. If it were an "estimation" like most products advertise, I could understand, but they actually have printed on their bag a huge picture called "Sensible Portions" that has a big number 38 on it, saying "this is your portion size"!
The email:
A little complaint -
First off, I love the cinnamon apple straws (and frankly, all of your products), they are delicious. As I am pretty health conscious and I tend to scruptinize everything my family and children eat, I decided to measure the 1oz portion that the company claims is 38 straws. I know these are "estimates" HOWEVER it is written all over the bag how 38 straws is a portion size. When I did the scale measurement, 20 straws were 1oz. That is almost a 50% differential. NOT acceptable, because that woulld be ~250 calories instead of 130 and would completely throw off a day's calorie count. Just thought you should be aware and possibly take some responsibility for this. I know most people do not measure their food.0 -
OMG...I JUST measured these at home today and thought the same thing!!! This is such BS!! I love these things and now I'm totally disappointed...
Thanks for sending them an email....They should be ashamed of themselves!!!0
