...So...Im going on a camping trip from Thursday to Monday and i really hate camping. On top of this i am also going with my boyfriend and we fight ALOT so im sure this will be packed somewhere in between my leggings and my pile of medication to be able to deal with this (did i mention im sick all the time?)

And while im going im pretty sure that i wont be able to choice my own food. Im packing some fruits for myself because i get extremely sick all the time and sometimes food like that helps me.

BUT i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what i should bring and how to maybe turn super unhealthy camping trip food into something edible...?

And im also wondering if i should keep logging on with my phone (i can picture myself now despreatly searching for a bar lol) Or should i just stop going on my fitness pal for that time being. im almost at 90s day so itd be sad to watch it all go away but im not even sure if my phone will work out there

And for those that are like me, how do you deal with camping trips?

who will be doing the cooking? are you tenting it or do you have an RV? I'm just trying to figure out how you will be cooking.

Use the phone app to keep up with MFP when you travel. It will help.

While camping do one meal out per day (because trying to do dishes etc. while camping is a huge pain). Some healthy ideas to cook over the fire are baked potatoes, grilled cheese (better than other fried options), mini English muffin pizzas, etc. I also would buy those little cereal bowls (with the cereal in them) and just stick to cereal or oatmeal for breakfast. Easy cleanup and no cooking. Also bring a camp stove to cook on.

Take care of yourself. This is a vacation, it should not be stressful. If it is, what's the point? Find something you both like to do instead. Or pick an activity while camping that you DO actually enjoy!

Kind of unrelated to your question, but why would you want to be with someone that you fight with all the time? I damn sure wouldn't wanna go on a camping trip with someone I fight with constantly.

Don't quit just because you are camping. Camping is part of life. Drink lots of water. Your food depends on what kind of camping you are doing. How often you can resupply fruits and veggies, how much cooking will be done. If you are roasting hotdogs over the campfire all week, oh dear!
I too, wonder why you stay with a boyfriend that you fight with constantly. Take care of yourself, honey.

I am going camping this weekend as well. Snacks I will be taking for myself are Larabars (going to try to make my own), almonds, apples, Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese and Wasa Fiber Rye Crispbread crackers. I don't understand why people take crapy food camping with them, but they do. We take a fully stocked kitchen, and a camping stove, so we have regular pots and pans to cook with and not just the BBQ. So I am also taking canned green beans for veggies. If you are only having a BBQ pit and not a camping stove, then take a lot of aluminum foil and you can wrap veggies in there to cook them.

Camping food can be healthy, but it can be hard if you are not allowed any say in the matter. I could go on with gourmet camping suggestions, we love to do it up right when we camp! Good luck!

ok so intial reaction to reading this is "Why are you going camping if you hate it and why are you with a guy you fight with?"

Next: Camping can be really healthy and super fun! It's all about attitude and the adventure! For my foods I usually pack fruits, trail mix, sandwich stuff, carrots, pea pods and then s'mores for a treat. We also cook over a fire with a hot dog (which is not all that bad for you) Or we make a freezed dried meal. Also, crystal light on the go is nice to add to water.

If you hike a ton or canoe, fish, anything active you should burn a ton of calories. Also, I try to be as active as possible - trail runs, long hikes, site seeing - so that I am so tired that I don't care if I'm sleeping in a tent (I do have an air pad) or that I might not look or smell the best (that's what hats are for, right?)

So try to have fun and not stress over anything. Let your guy set the camp site up and just go along for the ride. If you end up not feeling the best - just take a nap or sit outside with a good book.
  • I'm being coached to feed my body what will nourish it. You already know that fresh fruit nourishes you.

Because you likley won't have access to your iPhone while camping, I would recommend, planning out your meals on MFP before you leave. This will be a great opportunity for you to have a say in what your body needs.

    Good luck!

I LOVE camping but thats just me :)- me and my hubby go at least once a month but I don't worry too much about what I eat because I'm 10x more active during the day hiking and fishing so I feel like I'm burning most of it off.

We are going on a week long camping trip in July, and I am currently planning my menu. Get Chicken and Fish, both which is Fantabulous on the grill. Pack your vegetables and fruit... Remember to eat more veggies with the bad stuff so you don't over eat on the bad stuff. My menu so far looks like this. Sunday night, grilled chicken tortillas and watermelon. Monday morning, egg white omelet with turkey sausage. Lunch hamburger and lots of raw veggies. Dinner, Fish, baked potato, and salad... You get the point. We are cooking over an open fire... but I refuse to gain all of my weight that I have lost by then back. Snacks will be apples, pears, peaches, watermelon, blackberries, carrots, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce...my main meats will be fish and chicken, and yes some tuna in water... I will have a day that I will allow myself to eat junk, because honestly that is what makes camping so much fun...but I will limit myself and watch how much of it I eat. I also already have my walking planned out, every morning for at least 30 minutes, and that of course doesn't include the swimming and other stuff that goes on at a campground.

You can do it, look forward to it, think of it as a mini vacation and as a milestone in your journey, if you can get through this you can get through anything. Remember, it's okay to have a bite of this and that it is when you actually EAT nothing but the bad stuff that it hinders you.... I'm here for you if you want to chat hon...camping can be fun if you remember to enjoy the small stuff, soak up the beauty of nature...and when you come back home you don't have to go back out lol.

I would pack something like dried fruit, low cal cereals heck you can bring just about anything. Just take a cooler. I do things to prevent high calorie intake when i go camping. My family likes brauts and thins like that so i will cut them in half or in threes and the same with teh bun i somtimes just cut the top one down (ya know shave off as many calories as possible) or sometiems i don't even eat a bun. Another camping fav is beans. those I just avoid. I try to bring lettuce or something else with some dressing and contribute a big salad to the table of food with some low fat dressings. and surprisingly the family loves it.

As for you and your boyfriend fighting all the time I don't wan tto be too involved I know that can be a touchy subject, but I suggest trying to let things go that aren't that big of a deal. Pick your battles. I know from experience (hubby and i are not always on level ground) that weight loss seems like way bigger of a hurdle when you are fighting because when they aren't comforting food is (sorry its true nothing makes me feel better then relaxing with my BFF's Ben and Jerry haha)

Also an obstacle you probably will face is alcohol at the campground TONS of empty calories. Bring some white wine like Mad Housewives. 90 calories per serving and delicious. or just limit what you drink! light beers and light cheer beer are okay too but only 1 or 2.

Another tip while at the camp ground ENJOY IT. Go for walks/runs and figure them in (for example obviously MFP might not be in reach. Just check what they will be and write the stuff down you may encounter. FIgure out what you can eat and what you can burn off.

If you are going "car camping", meaning you will drive somewhere and unload and be close to your car, there is no reason you cannot bring a nice cooking / meal preparation setup.

On the flip side, also think about all of the great outdoor exercise you will get being outside and enjoying nature. There are beautiful things to experience out hiking along trails, taking in the wonder of mother nature. The calories will be flying off being outdoors and being active.

The fresh air will kick your metabolism into gear as well. I think you might be surprised how much going camping can do for you when you just embrace it and enjoy yourself.

Yes, I Do camp a lot.

We enjoy ourselves out camping, bring a little wine and relax during the evening hours around a campfire. There may also be very exciting adventures out camping depending on where you go. Get out on a lake, canoeing, try a little fishing, maybe some swimming. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

    Here are some suggestions:
    1. Canned low sodium organic soup for a cold night.
    2. Raw Almonds or other raw nuts
    3. If you have a cooler, you can bring some greek yogurt.
    4. Sweet Potatoes to cook over fire (Better than white potatoes)
    5. Eggs- if you eat them
    6. High Fiber cereal like Kashie- Go Lean w/o milk for a snack
    7. Any raw fruit or vegitable that can withstand the heat.
    8. If you are going to make s'mores use 85% dark chocolate or higher
    10. PB & Jelly Sandwhiches with Whole Grain High Fiber bread and organic raw peanut butter and Jelly.
    11. If you have a cooler, you can prepack some heathy sandwhiches with Whole Grain High Fiber bread .
    12. Bring aluminum foil and roast veggies over the fire with some spices, (Zuccini, squash, sweet potatoes, or whatever you like.
    13. Lowfat Chicken sausage or Hebrew National 97% fat free hotdogs.

I hope this helps, since you get sick alot, I know this may be hard for you. You can do it!

First off sorry you are going camping if you hate it and doubly sorry that you are going camping with someone you fight with all the time.... :noway:

Me, I love camping! We tent camp & rv camp - either way I always barbeque our meals. I will bring chicken, hamburger, hotdogs, steak. I also bring vegetables to grill - peppers, zuchinni, mushrooms. I load up on tons of fresh fruits and vegetables - normally have salad with every dinner along with fruit. I also precook pasta and make pasta salads. So long as you have a cooler with ice (we dry ice it) you are good to go with whatever you wanna bring.

If you have service, I would log but if you don't there's nothing you can do about that. You can still log the calories you are aware of though - keep track the best you can.

Hope you end up having a good time!!
