Hi all!
Not really new to the site but this is my first time posting on the community so do be gentle with me....
My problem is that I have the most terrible diet but I don't over eat if you get me? So I will eat within my target limits but the stuff I'm eating is all shite....crisps, pizza, etc. I seem to have major issues with food...I'm what people would call a 'fussy' eater, though I don't know that this applies to me exactly. I'm more scared of going out to eat with people and try new foods....I will always find some way to convince myself it's a bad idea...."Oh I'll just be wasting money if I buy food I might not like" or "I'll feel bad if I've bought this stuff, made it and then I don't like it and I'll feel even worse if someone did that for me". This is to the point now where I am terrified of going out with work people or to work dinners because I don't know the menu in advance and I may end up sitting there with no food which draws all attention to me because I'm not eating, which is the last thing on earth I want.
Funny thing is I actually like a lot of fruit it's just I rarely eat it....we always seem to have crips etc. in but fruit is a rarity and the little apple bags I like all go off really, really quickly. I'm really looking to shed some of this horrid pudge I have going on around my lower abdomen, below my belly button. I'm just under 13 stone atm....I've just recently gotten over a cold which meant I couldn't exercise for about 2 weeks so I've put some pounds back on as I was 12 and a half.......any advice out there??

Hi there inabasket
CW 189lbs
GW 175lbs
I'm new to all this too so I can only give you my experience unfortunately!
I was totally in the same boat as you. I have a massive weakness for Walkers crisp and sometimes my diary is full of exactly that. But so long as you fit in your goals, you won't necessarily put weight on. Look into the IIFYM methods online - there's a lot of debate about this area but I firmly believe that it isn't what you eat. Everything has a calorie amount. Yes, unhealthy things tend to have higher calorie amounts but as long as you stick to your gorals, you'll be fine in losing weight.
Being completely straight with you, it sounds like you have food issues and should maybe talk to someone about it. I'm sure that's what a lot of people on here would tell you. I don't believe that though. I'm what people describe as 'picky' as I only eat certain foods. I don't have allergies or anything like that, I just don't like the taste of a lot of food and I've always been like this. The only way to get better? Get over it and try different things or even bite the bullet and eat the fruit you like. You talk about your fiancée in your profile, can't you talk to her/him about this and see if you can only have fruit in if that's the way you want to go? Like I said, I don't think that's what you need but if it would help with your food issues, it may give you some more control.
You say you have to go to work dinners - is there any way you can get out of it? If not, you have to face it head on. Why not try food when you're alone and see what you like that way? I'm sure you could call the restaurant and ask for the menu in advance so you could try and eat there before the work meal and see if you like it. Or just buy the food and try it at home in private. It might help with your anxiety.
Sorry if this seems a bit head on but I do wish you luck. Sometimes your head has more involvement in losing weight than your body does. Feel free to add me as a friend on here - I'd love support in my goals and think we have similar issues to face.0
