Have You Ever Lost 5LBs In A Week, How Did You Do It?

I'm curious if anyone has ever lost 5lbs in a week and if you did tell me your secret What did you do that week that helped you loose 5 Lbs and was it during a detox or during the middle of your diet? Any tips or food recommendations?

I loose 5lbs a week pretty steadily if I work at it. Ill eat low carbs, high protein/fat, count every calorie. Then swim for an hour 4 times a week and lift weights in between. Its alot of work, but its worth it. That being said I doubt you will get alot of helpful answers asking this question in the forums...most people on MFP dont promote loosing more than 2lbs per week0

As they shouldn't. It's not healthy. Not to mention that if you are actually losing 5 pounds a week, it's likely not all fat. You are losing some muscle in there too. And you're also not fueling your body properly. You would have to be eating at a serious deficit to even come close to losing that much in a week.

I lost 6 pounds in my first 5 days. I think it's from cutting out a lot of fast food sodium and retaining less water. Steady state, I've been averaging about 10 pounds/month.0

I lost 5 pounds in a week when I got the flu.
Why do you want to lose so much in one week? Also, you don't need to detox. They are all pretty much a scam to make money off of people. Your body naturally detoxes itself through your kidneys and liver.0 -
Your profile says you want to lose 17 lbs, is that accurate?
If so, you should be aiming for 1/2 lb to 1 lb loss per week.
If you lose 5 lbs in a week, it is probably mostly water weight. You didn't gain 17 lbs in 3 weeks, you aren't going to lose it in 3 weeks, certainly not in a healthy way or in a way that you have much chance of keeping it off.0 -

When I first started losing weight I dropped that fast in the first few days. It didn't last. I was mostly getting food out of my digestive system and losing glycogen. A sustained 5 lbs per week is incredibly difficult for anyone.0

I lost 4.3 the first week I ever dieted. It was all that water weight! I was eating 1400 cals a day I think. After that, not going to happen though. I'm not willing to starve myself for that.0

if you're losing at that rate then you are losing a bit of fat and a higher ratio of lean mass (fluids and muscle)
the only time I actually lost 5 Lbs in a week was when I first started cutting calories and had the inherent drop in water and waste in the system. Outside of that, you're torching lean mass unless you're morbidly obese.0 -
No but I don't have much to lose anyway. I think the bigger a person is the more weight they would lose in the first weeks. Detoxes don't help you to lose weight either.0

I have basically lost 1lb per day for 2 months. But i'm just starting and I think the weight comes off fast when you're starting out. I have also had VSG surgery 9 days ago and struggle to reach 700 calories/day. I'm eating everything i'm supposed to it's just that my portions are tiny and it fills me up. I suspect my weight loss will slow down when I can start eating slightly larger portions and I start to reach a more normal weight. Although I would like to maintain losing 1 to 2lbs/wk until I reach my goal but I guess time will tell.0

Yup!
Step 1: be really obese. Helps if yours about to get your period.
Step 2: cut calories, lift weights and during a metric craptonne of water
Step3: bam 5lbs down.
Granted it was mostly water and I went right to a steady 2-3lbs since but it counts right?

I accidentally lost 5 pounds in one week while my husband was out of town, as he is the cook in the relationship. I'm not good at fending for myself and didn't want to blow tons of money on fast food, so I ate almost the same thing everyday. It consisted of the following:
AM - coffee and creamer, Kashi Toasted Berry Crumble with 1% milk
Lunch - Amy's organic ravioli bowl
Afternoon Snack - Handful of fresh mixed berries or a whole avocado
Dinner - Smoothie made up of 1% milk, vanilla protein powder, and frozen mixed berries
Dessert - 1 piece of 72% dark chocolate
I'm not saying this is ideal, it's just what I ate while the hubby was away. He normally makes sure I get plenty of veggies and lean meat at dinner. Also keep in mind I have a lot of weight to lose, and I haven't lost that much that quickly since.

Thank you to everyone for responding, well I actually want to loose 95 lbs but I set a shorter goal taking baby steps, so my goal right now is to loose 45 lbs, I really don't have any idea whats not normal and what is I know I'm overweight for my height "5'1"/"229 lbs" but loosing at least 2 lbs a week and 3 lbs water weight doesn't sound so bad I am hoping I will loose at least 75 lbs in 2 years.0

I would worry over two weeks of large weight loss!

Hi guys... I'm into my 2nd week and have already lost... I think 10 Lbs. Once I got over a certain weight I retained an awful lot of water. So I would say 3lb of my weight loss was fat and the rest was water.
Just as an example my husband made a comment this morning "you have ankles, not kankles ".
When I poked them it was bone.. Instead of my finger sinking in.
I will be more than happy to lose 1 or 2 Lb a week now until I reach a reasonable weight for my height.
I say just take your time, don't lie to yourself or MFP and enjoy the changes that will happen0 -

You will only lose water weight like that in the beginning, or after a high sodium meal or the like (which will cause a 'gain' on the scales, before you lose it). This will NOT happen every week. Aim for 2ish pounds a week. For someone of your size you may get some weeks of higher loses for a while till you get a bit smaller, but aim for around 2 pounds a week.

I can lose 5lbs in one day just from water weight.0

It happened to me during the first week of my regimen. I would agree with water weight being the main reason for the loss. I kept my calorie intake to 1000 per day and would run for an hour in the mornings and bike for an hour at the end of the day. I am 5 foot 8 and 210 lbs. Still a long way to go but I do agree with the 2 lb loss per week being the safest way to become fit/healthier.0

You are 5'8" and run for an hour and eat only 1000 cals! That's way too less! I am 5'6 and weigh 223 lbs and I eat 1900 cals and that's 20% deficit! I am losing 1-1.5 lbs a week.

I lost 20 lb in my first month but I had a problem with edema caused by a serious illness and at least 10 lb of that was water after the edema and illness got treated.
Some lose water weight the first week or two, some don't. Please don't get caught up in the numbers. Aim for 2 lb. per week and accept however your body chooses to handle it.0 -

Biking alone is like burning over 400 calories. You are doing your body a disservice if you are only eating 1000 calories.
