Question about being over on protein

Most days I'm over on my protein, but under my calorie goal overall. Will this being over on protein hinder results? Is there anything *wrong* with being over on protein?

I personally believe we need more protein than this site recommends. I think it helps keep you full longer and goes toward building muscle. I think it's the carbs (especially sugar) you really have to watch and I guess some people would say the sodium too - I'm very bad about watching that - always way over.0

I'm always way under on carbs and fat, usually about 100-200 under on calories in general, but way over protein! I guess of the 3, that's the best on to be over on! Thanks for your input.0

Agree with kathyhull, protein is key to weight loss. Need to have fiber as well to prevent CLOGS!!! Another part is make sure you are drinking your water and staying away from processed foods helps keep the sodium down, plus water will help with that too!
I do 80-100 grams of protein a day, I was doing 65-80 and that also worked! The increase was at the request of my doctor but I know lots here are also at that level.0 -
As long as you are exercising and trying to build muscle there is nothing wrong with being over your protein, protein is very good for you just in moderation. It helps build lean mucscle which we all want!0

I have the very same question. I find it amazing that I'm over almost double my daily goal since I'm pescatarian and don't eat any red meat, chicken, or pork.
But I've been told that a woman should shoot to consume about .5g of protein for every pound of body weight and that protein promotes lean muscle build and helps you feel fuller longer. I haven't heard anything negative yet about my protein intake. Given what I've been told the goals set by the MFP auto program seem to be low and I haven't adjusted to lower my intake on the compensate, on the contrary, I try to get in as much protein as possible and average around 80 grams per day where MFP tells me to aim for 45g on a resting (no workout day) I still get about the same amount of protein usually by consuming high protein shakes, fish, and whole grain breads.0 -
Well my cousin is about to graduate as a nursing student and I asked her about this two days ago. Excess protein will come out when you pee and from the most part isn't a problem unless your kidney's have a problem breaking it down in which case you'd get kidney stones. But I think if that was a problem for anyone you'd already know it.
And in my independent reading, it seems to be an issue with pregnant women and it involves preclampsia.... I didn't really dive into that one. lol
But over all, no real damage.0
