Blood Pressure Reading = shocker

So today I went to the doctor to renew a prescription. After seeing my blood pressure reading (and looking as to what was considered "healthy") I was shocked.
I thought I was healthier than that. My reading was 140/80. I'm 36 years old. Yikes.
I have no idea if the sinus/allergy medication I took a couple hours before had anything to do with it, because it does have pseudoephedrine in it.
At any rate, I need to get healthy. Pronto.

I think I'll get it measured away from a doctors office and off the medication.
At the end of the day, it won't hurt to get my rear end in gear as well...0 -

Definitely worth checking your BP away from the doctor's office, if you can use a trustworthy device. But not everyone suffers from white-coat syndrome so don't be shocked if the reading is confirmed.
The good news is some cardio can really improve things quickly. Here are but a few stories:

I was diagnosed with HPB a few years ago when i was still overweight. I went on the meds, lost weight, stopped taking my meds and monitored it at home for awhile but it was so all over the place that I finally made an appointment and got a physical, bloodwork, etc., and I still have HBP. In my case my doctor said I am doing everything right but genetics are working against me on this one so now I'm back on the pill. So for sure do what you can healthwise as far as eating and exercise and hopeuflly that lowers it naturally but don't beat yourself up about it if it's something beyond your control.0

You are right. I know for a fact I need to get in shape and be active. That right there is my goal, just to get moving. Plantar wart treatments for the last month have prevented me from doing that as I was left with massive pain and a massive open wound. At any rate, I don't want to make that an excuse, so I made sure I watched what I ate and just recently increased my water consumption to a gallon a day.
There are conditions in my family that are genetic. I have Coke bottle glasses, and I can trace that poor vision back to only my great grandfather and my great uncle. Arthritis is a big one too. High blood pressure, maybe. Either way, I'll do anything I can to get healthier now.0 -
Definitely do what you can to get it down. Cardio, weight loss and cutting sodium is huge. HBP is genetic for me. I have to take HCTZ, but when I started it last fall I was stroke level high and my mom had a stroke at 53! (7 of her siblings have had heart attacks!). I have lost 26lbs and it's gone way down (90s/60s), but I have been told I'll be on it for life...even though I'm doing an hour of cardio 5-6x/week. My dad is a super fit marathoner, never been overweight and started HCTZ at 31! Losing the weight and taking the pill is worth not having a heart attack or stroke down the road. Good luck!0
