Getting back on track when you are bothered by gain but feel demotivated

Im looking for some words of wisdom! I lost about 14lbs 18 months ago from a mixture of just logging my food on here and 5/2. I did and still do exercise hard nearly every day. A few months ago I became so fed up of logging what I ate and worrying about it that I just stopped. I havent weighed myself and I am still slim but I have gained my muffin top/love handles back and feel a bit flabby. It's really bothering me but at the same time I can't face doing anything about it. I think a big issue is drinking wine at weekends and making poor food choices then. I'm aiming to drink more water, log on here and cut down on the booze but can't face 5/2 again. My worry is without a set structure I roll just flounder and it will be too vague to work. Any thoughts?

Will not roll flounder! Btw, I think not weighing myself is me not wanting to face up to the gain

I think you should not beat yourself up about it. Everyone has set backs. It seems like you know what your problem is and know what to do to get yourself back on track. You just need to do it. I think you should do what works best for you. Ask yourself, do you really need to logg every single thing you eat. Or just make consistent better healthier choices by eating the right foods or eating in moderation. I know it's hard and we all fall but what matters most is what we do after we fall to bounce back. Be proud of the work you put in so far and don't feel like you failed yourself. It's a ongoing journey and lifestyle change.

Honestly people can't see what you weigh. It's really all psychological if you know you just gained a little bit of weight. Your weight will constantly fluctuate. Don't be a slave to the scale. Go by how you feel, the increase energy, the sense of accomplishment, the positive feedback you get from people who see how much weight you lost and appreciate how hard you worked. Being able to fit into those clothes you always wanted too. You will be fine.

I got really frustrated with logging too. I did it about a month straight and then said to hell with it. I am now working on making healthier choices with food; choosing foods that make me feel good and satisfied so I don't snack, as that seems to be my downfall. If you want consistent, more accurate results, you will most likely have to start logging again. It's all about what you can handle and what you want. As the other poster said, don't beat yourself up over this...we all go through it. Think about what you want and get back on the horse!

It's possible that cumulative life stress played a role in you getting fed up with logging but it's also quite possible that logging is just not the best strategy for you.

You could resume logging, even if in the short term, to try and get a handle on energy intake while you work on food habits that would hopefully result in weight loss or weight maintenance without logging at some point in the future.

Or you could try to do it without logging. Just don't make the conclusion that YOU MUST LOG because you don't know that without diligently working on non logging methods.

You can read more about this here in a detailed reply that I made a few posts down the page. Note that I'm not against logging, I think it's fantastic and I think some people can do really well with it. It's just not for everybody for a variety of reasons.

You don't have to go back to 5:2. That's just one method of creating a calorie deficit. Choose a reasonable calorie goal and meet it consistently.

Thanks all. Just back from a run and on my 2nd large glass of water. I don't mind tracking as such more the fact that if I am tracking I'm watching what I eat which I began to resent because I do so much exercise. But I know deep down unless you are training super hard you can't eat 'what you like'. I'm going to start tracking again, eat sensibly, keep up my exercise regime and limit wine to one night a week! Thanks for all the support x
