Causing gas TMI post

Every time I have a meal replacement bar or a protein bar I get really bad gas... Like really bad. Does this happen to most people or is my body not coping well with the ingredients? I like them because it feels like a treat but gives me protein and keeps me feeling fuller for longer. Has anyone that has the same problem come across a brand that doesn't cause it?

yeah, you should probably try something else. I have no issues with that stuff.0

If it has a lot of fiber in addition to the protein, that can happen to me. Clif bars are usually okay, but I only eat them when I'm going on a long, long hike (since most of them have the calorie count of one whole meal for me.)0

Does it have a lot of sugar alcohols in it? That would be my guess. I've had some stomach upset from a few of the Quest bar flavours that are high in sugar alcohols, but nothing else has bothered me.0

Are you sticking to a specific brand or have you tried a few? The likely culprits are the type of protein (whey, soy, etc), the sugar alcohols or the protein to fibre balance. If you've been eating bars with a specific type of protein, switching to another type to see if that's the problem is probably the easiest.0 -
I would try a different kind. I have had things like this happen to me. I used to eat one that had whey protein in it and it gave me very bad gas and I felt very bloated after I ate it. I have been eating the Cliff Builders Peanut Butter Chocolate bars and haven’t had any gas or stomach pains.0

Some people's digestive systems are just more sensitive to high amounts of protein and fiber when they are consumed all at once. I would recommend drinking a lot of water with it to help balance out the amount of fiber contained in most protein bars. However, it could just be an allergy or a sensitivity. Might be worth mentioning to your doctor to figure out which ingredient could be the one irritating you, and then you could look for a bar that doesn't contain that particular ingredient0

Thanks for the replies all x0
