is there such a thing as a good Pilates or Yoga DVD for beginners?
I am interested in both, but there are no great Yoga places in my area.
Just wondering....

Im poor....so i always go online and type in "free yoga videos" and find 30 minute videos on google or youtube.
I guess my favorite would be "yoga zone"

There are lots of both. I recommend that you go to a website like collage video, which shows you clips of videos so you can see a little of it before you purchase (they also have a generous return policy). Barbara Brenaugh has a good yoga DVD for beginners. I have her am/pm for beginners. The DVD has about 8 different workouts varying in length from 15-45 minutes. Also Elena Brower, Elements Yoga for Beginners is fabulous. It's one of my favorites. I also like Natasha Rizopolous, but that is a more strenuous yoga DVD set. It's sold as a three DVD set, the first one focuses on standing poses, the second on twisting, and the third on balancing. I love it, and she explains the poses really well. Each DVD has an instruction menu where she carefully explains each pose, demonstrates it, then has you do it, pointing out common errors in form. There are two practice menus in each DVD, too. One is "follow Jason" which shows the beginner poses with props (blocks and strapes), and the other is just the practice with Natasha.0

thank you both.
Very much!
As a beginner, I like the fact that you have tried and like the DVD's.
I love this site - folks are so helpful!

I ordered a Stott Pilates set from Sports Authority's which includes: 3 workout dvd (beginner, intermediate, advanced); and a fitness ring.
They also have a Stott Pilates set which includes: 1 beginner dvd, and one light fitness ring.
Good Luck!0 -
For pilates - Stott and Winsor (Mari) have some very detailed beginner videos. See if you can find some of these at your local library - because you will grow out of them fairly quickly. They can become tedious. Stott is actually labeled Level 1, Level 2, etc.
After you learn pilates: Ana Caban videos are excellent. 5 Day Fit Pilates is a bargain - there are 5 workouts.
I do yoga purely for flexibility purposes - so it moves pretty slow. My favorite DVD is AM Yoga for Your Week with Rodney Yee. 5 short routines to choose from.0
