Cheat day

Today is one day of the week that I cheat on my diet I will be going to Grimaldi's pizza for lunch and probably serve up a nice steak for dinner with a side of ice cream .but before I do this I went on a 3.5 mile jog and did 500 crunches ,200 twists from side to side all low impact cardio just so I won't feel so guilty. everybody deserves a cheat day once a week. With that being said as a type two diabetic with insulin-dependent I do have to test more on my cheat day and make sure I just my insulin accordingly to what I eat. Yummy day!

    Everyone is different, but cheat days just don't work for me. Overeating to me is addictive behaviour much like smoking, and I wouldn't have "smoke days" when trying to quit smoking.

    That being said, I may reward my self with a single treat at *significant * milestones, and maybe schedule weekly cheat days when I reach goal.

    I commend you on balancing your indulgence with extra exercise... In my opinion that sort of makes it not a cheat day after all.

    Cheat days don't work for me either. I strategically plan so that everything fits within my calorie limit.

    Prior to signing up here, I was eating well during the week, and losing weight. Then I'd eat whatever I wanted on the weekends figuring that whatever cycling or hiking I did would cover it ... and I'd gain back all the weight I lost ... and once in a while even more.

    Now, if I want something special (like 3/4 of a pizza I had last night), I work for it so that it remains within my calorie limit. Yesterday I cycled 100 km for that pizza. :)

    Or last weekend, we went out to dinner, but I made sure I was under my calorie limit the 2 days prior, and then on the day I walked 8 km and cycled 5.6 km (bad, windy, wet weather or I would have cycled more). I did go over my limit by 130 cal, but the two previous days covered it.

    A lot of planning goes into these things to remain within my calorie limit!

    I don't believe in "cheat" days/meals/foods etc. IMO this sets you up with for a bad relationship with food as you are going to view certain foods as good and other as bad; when in fact food = food and it is mean to provide your body with nutrients and energy.

    I eat ice cream daily, doest hat mean i am cheating? Of course not, it means that I have fitting it into my day and making sure that I am hitting micros/macors/calorie targets.

    OP - I think you may have better success eating the foods that you can and not viewing foods as "bad/cheats". Understanding you have a medical condition there are obviously some foods that you must avoid/restrict more so than someone without a medical condition.

    I don't do cheat days because the word 'cheat' implies I am doing something wrong, bad or immoral. I ate 1/2 of a frozen pizza the other day but it wasn't cheating because it was only 300 calories. Last weekend I was out for a birthday dinner and had a 1200 calorie meal. I went a little over for the day but I was under for the week prior, so again, I don't consider that cheating. And I've lost a pound and a half in that same time.

    pretty much this ..

    my birthday was friday ..i had a chocolate donut, cake for lunch, and then creme brule after dinner..pretty sure I hit about 3000 calories that day, but I don't view at as "cheating" i just view it was "normal birthday eating" ..

    I've always thought if you're going to have a big meal/cheat day it should be called a treat day. A reward for sticking to your plan for the week/month/whatever. It removes any stigma that comes with 'cheating'.

    That is why each and everyone of us are made different with different genetics and physical abilitys. My diet and exercise is impeccable ,I can eat ice cream and pizza if I want every day but I'm not going to do it. I have a 30 inch waist and very fit for 48 years old but I do watch my nutrition so I do take one day a week and reward myself.jrdkt5ldgliz.jpg
