Sugar is sugar. An apple will give you fiber in addition to the sugar.

There is no good or bad sugar. Sugar is sugar.

The most important thing you need to know about an apple is you should weigh it on a food scale to know how many calories it has.

So sugar from fruit is the same as sugar from processed foods? Should I worry about the sugar in an apple then if the calories in it are low? I'm trying to eat healthier today I stayed under my calorie count but my sugar was over the apple and v8 drink were the major contributors to the high sugar. Should I cut them both out. New to this healthy eating and confused already. Thanks for your comments

Yeah, both sugars are the same. The thing is that that added sugars have no intrinsic reason to be there so it's best to avoid them. Fruits have other good vitamins and fiber and such in there with the sugars so you get benefits from the fruits. Fruit juices tend to have less nutrition to go with that sugar so that they aren't as useful overall as whole fruits are when comparing if the healthfulness of the item is worth the sugar that comes with it.

MFP's sugar setting is quite low and sugar is really already included in your carbs.

Rather than tracking sugar separately, I switched the sugar column to fiber. That's been much more useful to me.

Ignore the my fitness pal sugar suggestions. Track fiber or iron or something more useful.
Enjoy the apple and the V8 :)

There is nothing wrong with eating fruit even if they contain evil sugar. Eat as many apples as you like.

You do need to watch the calories. If I ate as many as I liked, I'd be way over on calories.

Fruits are great and shouldn't be avoided due to sugar but they need to be moderated just as all other foods need to be moderated.

Thanks everyone now I have a better idea. There seems to be so much to track and pay attention to I will take your advice. Also it's comforting to know there are people on here who are willing to offer advice and support.
