All right ladies (guys too, sorry), I'm in great shape, work out 6 days a week and count every calorie that enters my mouth. What the heck am I doing wrong that I can't get this darn cellulite (that I've had forever from about16 yrs old) go away? I alternate circuit weight training days with cardio days, and even the cardio is varied between a slow 2-3 mile run plus an elliptical on one day, stair master and bike on another, sprints and whatever.. Arghhh, I just turned 41 and have lost about 10 lbs thanks to my fitness pal helping me make better decisions, but oh my gosh! What do I do now? I've been on this current 3 days on, one off for 9 months. and of course, plateaued. Help?

Pretty much everyone who is alive and female has cellulite to some degree. Fewer men have it but some do.
It's just natural.0 -
No idea but I've been told by quite a few women (I work at a laser and cosmetic clinic) that body brushing can help to soften it down a bit. I'm quite lucky... I don't have cellulite even though I've been big. But I am covered in stretchmarks instead. Ugh.0

I couldn't see my cellulite at a low-end-of-normal BMI (19)0

My cellulite improves at a lower BMI, but exercise is the best thing for it in my experience. Body brushing only irritates my skin, and no lotion or gel has ever worked. A little bit of gradual tanner seems to disguise it a bit too.
Generally, I think cellulite always looks worse to the person it's on than anyone else, and it's largely genetic so you're unlikely to eradicate it. Best just to accept it and not beat yourself up about it.0 -

That is exactly how I deal with my stretchmarks. They tell a story so who gives a hoot lol0 -

Absolutely - mine largely tell a story called 'What Happens When Your Boobs and Hips Appear Overnight at The Age of 12 & 3/4'
The sequel is 'What Happens When You Are Old Enough To Stop At McDonald's After School With Your Friends'.0 -
Keeping well hydrated seems to help minimise the appearance. Not a cure, unfortunately.0

I switched from lifting light to lifting heavy and it is going away. The back, top of my thighs, right below my butt has always been the issue for me, but slowly it is getting firmer and the cellulite is less apparent.0

lifting heavy....how long have you been doing this? How long for you to see results? Do you mix with cardio? I guess I'm asking what kind of routine are currently on? I'm not sure if I should substitute one day of heavy legs and keep the rest the same or what...
Thanks ladies! I'm just not willing yet after all these years to give up. I've seen some improvement...just not enough.0 -
To a point cellulite is genetic. You can improve appearance by lowering body fat a lot and by exercising, but some women will have cellulite no matter what they do.0

It's mostly genetics. I've grown to accept it. Even when I was 115lbs I had it (cheerleader & lifting weights 5x/week). I am 30lbs heavier now and have no desire to ever be that skinny again...you could count my vertebrae through my shirt! Anyhow, that said...I plan to lose 10lbs more and I know it will continue to improve, but never go away. My solution: self tanner. Tan fat always looks better.0
