I need some advice. I'm going on a church retreat type thing where I will not have access to the outside world AT ALL from Thursday night to Sunday night. That means no phone or internet which means no MFP logging. My question is, how do I go about trying to eat good. My husband went last weekend and he said there was candy everywhere 24/7 and of course candy + chocolate are my biggest weaknesses. I can take my scale and track what I eat.. I just can't tell if I am over eating or not for 4 whole days. I also won't be able to go to the gym. What would you guys do in my situation?

eat your meat vegetables and fruit. Every time you feel like candy, go for a walk and think about how hard you've worked and how long it takes to remove the candy from your hips. :) Pray for strength. If you eat a piece a fruit and take the walk, and still feel the need to have a piece of chocolate, then a single piece won't hurt you. I've done binging weekends, come back Monday and hate that I have to start all over again. blah

Maybe you can volunteer to supply some of the items for meals? It is only three days, I am sure if you just try to be conscious of your food choices, three days won't do any irreversible damage to your progress :)

Can you take some healthy snacks with you to make sure you don't get too hungry between meals? I find that's when I'm most likely to eat something I'm trying to avoid. Also, track as best you can using pen and a small notebook. Just the process of writing everything down will help keep you from going overboard on the goodies.

Pen & Paper, do manual calculations. Maybe make a cheat sheet of common calories per ounce for foods you think you'll eat? And know what total calories per day you have as a target.

As for the candy, it comes down to self control. Though you can also allot a certain # of calories per day for candy/treats if you'd like. And hopefully you'll be active, and do lots of walking. :)

My husband says its mostly sitting and hearing people's testimonies. On the table you are sitting at there's a bunch of candy right in the middle and they refill constantly. I think I can however take my own snacks but I'm not sure if we'll have a fridge or not so it would have to be mostly fruits + peanuts that I take. I'll also take some protein bars and shakes. I've been doing so good about logging even on bad days. Hopefully you guys are right and four days won't throw me off too much.

If you eat candy, save the wrapper to track it later. If I started putting candy wrappers in my pockets so that I could keep track of it, I would probably just stop eating candy because I don't want to keep holding onto all of those wrappers.

Write down what you eat. When you get home, log it into MPF. Consider taking a lot of walks while you're there, and lowering your calories a small amount each day of the week leading up to your trip to make some wiggle room in your weekly average (either eat slightly less, or add on a little activity... Don't go crazy with this one or it could backfire.)

In the long run if you don't go absolutely crazy, even if you eat at maintenance for those days you won't actually go backward, but just stay the same.
