...start weight training now or wait until after my first 5k next Saturday? I just discovered bodybuilding.com and I made myself a plan but I don't want to push myself too hard right before a race.

Go for it! Maybe go light on it but strength training is definitely something that you should start ASAP0

Start now with really low weights. Don't strain to lift anything. You'll want to get used to the movements and learn proper form before lifting heavier weights.0

You can start....but go slow you don't want to get to sore before the race.0

YEAH AWESOME...........U probably seen the forum for begginers.....start there & increase w/ the program......I too discovered that site. I am on a12 week strength trainning. PHASE 3 week 7......& I feel great............Remember follow the PLAN & u'll do just fine.....MUCH LUCK..........0

i think it would be fine, but just be careful. i didn't start any strength training before my race because i didn't want to get injured. you never know when you use new muscles.....
you will do fantastic either way!
